Just last 28th of August 2017, Top of Cebu opened its doors to guests. Operating for only a month, intrigued diners seem not to mind the 30-minute ride up the mountain from Lahug. And it’s most probably because of these two reasons: (1) the overlooking view of Metro Cebu from the two-tier dining space , and (2) the restaurant is truly instagram-worthy.
Top of Cebu Restaurant is situated just before the entrance of Cebu’s most famous viewing deck, Tops Lookout. A small glass sign can be spotted leading to the museum-looking restaurant entrance, complete with a board containing information about Cebu, and a visual activity map.
The upper floor has a warm, formal setting, while the lower tier has a more relaxed, park-feel chill ambiance.
The Food
Dining with two of my friends, Marco and Dave, we ordered three dishes plus a platter of rice. Since each dish serves two persons, we opted to get three entrees to share and then split the bill. We had the Salted Egg Calamares (P280), Chicken BBQ with Sinamak (P180), Grilled Pork Belly (P220) and a platter of Fiesta Rice (P160).
The Salted Egg Calamares is a personal favorite. Its breading stayed crunchy even after our 30-minute minishoot, and is mildly flavored with salted egg powder. The Chicken BBQ was disappointing though. It was presented real well, but contrary to what the menu said, it’s was not juicy at all. It tasted really dry, like it was boiled, frozen, thawed and grilled. The Grilled Pork Belly was ok. As for the Fiesta Rice, it could pass as a complete meal – viand and rice in one. It has chorizo, baby shrimp, mixed veggies and slices of hard boiled egg.
The service here is commendable! Great job guys! I’d love to be back real soon and try the other dishes and hope the service stays the same.
