During the birth of Mt. Vulcan in 1871, it kept erupting lava into the sea, destroying the town of Catarman and putting portion of the town underwater, including the town’s cemetery which today is one of Camiguin’s famous stops for tourists.
Corals are growing now at the once graveyard of the town’s people remains, now home to some colorful tropical fishes.
How to get to Sunken Cemetery Camiguin?
From Benoni port Camiguin, one can hire a motorcycle, multicab or a van. It is much convenient if you consign your vehicle for the whole duration of your stay in Camiguin. For our 2 day- 1 night stay in Camiguin, we paid 800php for the motorcycle rent (accommodates 2 poeple), that included the stops to tourist spots like cold and hot springs, then back to Benoni port the next day.
Boat ride to the cross and part of the sunken cemetery is at 50php per person.
