To be honest, I haven’t heard of Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken before my first visit 2 nights ago. One of my Manila friends was visiting Cebu, so I thought it would be a great idea to bring her at this newly opened restaurant in North Reclamation Area in Mandaue, but learned from her that there are several branches of Peri-peri in the capital already. Haha.
So my Manileña friend had suggested we get the “Rio chicken set” which would serve the four of us in the group – each getting a quarter chicken, a siding of our choice each and our pick of three single serving of sauces from eight of their signature Peri Sauces. Fairly priced for only P650, it is truly a good deal. The Peri-peri chicken is super tender, flavorful and juicy, it really doesn’t need additional sauce to taste.
But if you want it to have an extra kick of flavor, then the Peri Signature sauces won’t disappoint. I love spiced sauces and from the five sauces I have tried, I loved the Cajun Remoulade the most. For those who like it smoky, sweet and Tangy, try the Apachee’Kn Mesquite BBQ sauce; for garlic fanatics, the Count Cluckula’s Garlic Brew would be a good choice; Sheik Chic’s Harissa exotica would be a fave pick for those who love spices; Hen Dynasty’s Hoisin Sesame and Tokyo Tori’s Sweet Soy for those who prefer oriental sauces; for an extra kick of chili, Fowl-mouthed Chili Peppa would be perfect; And for a more traditional Filipino taste, Ka Tuka’s Honey Pinakurat is splendid!
The restaurant’s interior feels a bit mixed up though – looking a lot like a hybrid of an industrial country diner and a fastfood restaurant. The plaid + scarf + blue jeans uniform of the food attendants adds a li’l ranchy vibe to the experience though. 😉
You may visit Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken Cebu at North Reclamation Area Mandaue City (beside Total Gasoline Station). They are open from Mondays to Thursdays from 10Am to 10PM and Fridays to Sundays from 10AM to 11PM.
