THE LIST

THE EAT LIST: 25 Cebu City Restaurants to bring your Visiting Friends this Sinulog 2018

Sinulog is coming up and I am sure that you have friends visiting the metro to experience the country’s biggest festival. My friends and I sometimes find it as a dilemma in deciding where to dine when we get together; so to give a quick solution to that problem, I made a list of Cebu restaurants that my friends and I enjoy eating at. Sharing this directory with the hopes of helping our readers easily choose where to bring their guests this coming Sinulog season.

Here are our top 25 Cebu City Restaurants to bring your visiting friends this coming Sinulog 2018.

1. Harbour City Dimsum
A Cebuano favorite offering Chibuano (Chinese Cebuano) cuisine is a foolproof choice. Keep in mind to come in at least 30 minutes before the peak hours as you know very well how each of their branches gets really packed during lunch and dinner time.

If you are bringing first-timer friends over at Harbour City Dimsum, a good combo would be – Steamed Rice (Rice topping), Quail Egg or Mushroom Siomai and Spring Roll combo. Then wrap up the dinner with Xie ping! 😉

Harbour City Dimsum has branches at SM Seaside City, SM City Cebu, and Ayala Center Cebu. You may contact them through email at info@harbourcitydimsum.com.

The Use of a Physical Journal: Tips on how to Plan your 2016 Better

Ho, ho, ho! The long holiday break surely gave everyone a good long rest, and ample time to plan for the year ahead. Last Monday (December 28) was the outset of jotting down the first activities on my 2016 planners. And yes, you read it right – PLANNERS. In 2015, I worked with two (2) journals, each managing a different personal agendum – (1) daily planner (2) financial planner. The move made me do more, instrumental to hitting many of goals for 2015.

This coming 2016, I decided to add a third (3rd) journal where I can scribble down ideas and draft my sunny demiurgic future. I trust that the third planner would  bring about speedy feats on the aims I have set for the new year.

Why use a physical planner when you can put your activities on your smartphones?

Well, for some reason, writing down my plans and goals on a physical journal works 100 times better than just typing it on my iPhone’s calendar. Plus, it’s also one way to remind me, “Hey, I still know how to write!” Writing on journals is one of the three chances  ( the two others are:  filling out forms and writing Birthday and Christmas notes)  I get to write on an actual paper after college. Teehee.

But seriously, with our social media accounts and games snugged in our smartphones and gadgets, it is very difficult to resist the temptation and eventually giving in to the more “fun” digital activities than actually doing the plans we had for the day. So writing on a physical journal surely keeps us on track, with less chances of straying from our goals.

Choosing the right journal/ planner may be instrumental to your success

I started to religiously use an actual planner in 2009 which I got for free collecting coffee stickers at Starbucks Coffee. For four (4) consecutive years, I have been using the Starbucks yearly planner until I switched to  the  “The Giving Journal” which I scored at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in 2014. The planner shift made me improve on my outlining skills. The planner taught me on how to set goals well and live a balanced life of work and fun, as well enjoy the benefits of strong relationships, joyful spirituality and personal growth. But bringing The Giving Journal with me everyday had some setbacks. Very sensitive entries on the planner , like financial matters, are prone to being read by other people.  For example, I am in a meeting and  about to set a follow-up talk on the next week, and as I flip through the pages to check on my schedule, I accidentally exposed some confidential information during the action. So to solve the dilemma, in 2015, I used the Starbucks Planner as a financial planner where I jotted down my daily expenses and financial goals and The Giving Journal to plot my daily activities. My “Financial Planner” I keep on my bedside table and the “Daily Planner” is the one I bring everyday.

Choosing the journal to suit our organizing needs is vital in planning the year to come. Some wants a small planner which they can fit into their shoulder bags, others need more writing space on their daily sections to write all the details of their plans. For the creative ones, they love those journals with blank and activity pages where they have a space to put notes, doodles and calligraphy; while some prefers a straightforward journal containing the useful and basic pages to plan the year.

As a guide to help iLuvCebu readers choose the right planner,  I wrote a comparison on three (3) 2016 planners which I earned from collecting coffee stickers and stamps. You can read more about it here: http://www.iluvcebu.com/so-which-planner-are-you-going-to-use-in-2016/

Planning for 2016. Before I wrote down my aims on my 2016 planner, I reviewed the blueprints of my goal-setting this year to pinpoint the ones that worked and the ones that didn’t. In 2014, I used to set my personal goals based on five (5) sections – the same sections that guided me though my journey this year (2015). And in 2016, will be adopting the same categories to think out a holistic 2016.

Five Categories to consider for a well-planned year:  Relationships, FinanceTravelHealth and  Spirituality.

1. Relationships

Relating well with people is imperative to living a wonderful life. Each one is designed to be in relationships – a son/daughter, a parent, a friend, a partner, a classmate,a co-worker or any kind of ties.

We may also build relationships through reaching out and helping others. One of the things I am proud of is spearheading and being part of a team that share the same vision – eliminating rural illiteracy in Cebu.  For 8 years now, my team and I have reached out to more than 400 pupils yearly in three (3) rural elementary schools in our province. iLearners Inc. became a medium that brought a strong bond not just between its members but also with the community it has been reaching out to.

iLearners Inc. with the pupils of Caohagan Elementary School

Ways to build a stronger relationship with people that matters to you with the use of your planner.

1. Marking the dates of our friends’ birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations on our planners to make sure we don’t miss to greet them on their special days.

2. Setting dinner dates or coffee sessions with our special friends to know what’s up with them.

3. Making a list of our special friends’ likes, dislikes, favorite colors and other information so we’d be able to know what to give them on their special day. Gifts do not  have to be expensive. To our friends, it’s the thought that counts. But hey, if our budget permits, by all means, let’s spoil our friends.

4. Also, try joining and be involve in an organization with a cause we truly support. And from there, we can build camaraderie among the members of the organization, and the people we are helping out as well.

2. Finance

We should not spend more than what we earn. And to avoid overspending, let us keep track of all our monetary transactions. Write all our financial transactions down on a journal. It’ll help us manage our money, control our expenses and put up more ka-ching on our savings account! This may seem difficult to master, but it will become effortless when we get the hang of it.

Tips to better your budgeting skills:

1. Allocating a specific amount/ percentage of our monthly earning on our priorities.

Example: 100% Monthly  Salary = 55% Expenses, 20% Travel Fund, 10% Savings, 10% Emergency Fund ,  5% Charity

2. Set a daily budget and as much as possible do not (NEVER) exceed our everyday allowance.

3. Write down our daily expenses on our Finance Journal. This is important so we’d be able to track on which expenses we need to cut down on, so we can save even more. Also, to better organize the tracking of our expenses, it is very helpful to categorize our expenses on which tender we used: Cash, Credit/Debit Card, check, etc.

4. Pay our taxes. We don’t want BIR running down on us, do we? So pay the right taxes, and ON TIME!

5.  It is very important to purchase a  Health (HMO) insurance. Medical emergencies cost thousands, which may eat up all our savings. So it is wise to invest in a good HMO insurance Provider. Also, investing in variable Life Insurance is a great ideas too.

3. Travel

Preparing for a trip needs planning. And before plotting our vacation dates, we need to consult two important minutiae first – (1) Budget (2) Schedule.

It is helpful to first map out an itinerary – the places we want to go to, the restaurants we want to dine in at, the mode of transportation to get to our desired destinations. From there, we can then research on how much the approximate expense would be for that specific travel.

Through strategic planning, I was able to visit four (4) destinations for the first time this year and gladly did not go overboard the specified budget for all the four (4) adventures. I toured Bali (Indonesia) , Sagada (Luzon, Philippines), Japan (Nagoya, Kyoto, Nabana no Sato, Nagano, Osaka and Tokyo Prefectures) and Seoul (South Korea) for the first time in 2015. And don’t worry, the  itineraries I used on the those trips and the corresponding breakdown of expenses will soon be posted on my personal travel + style blog, Doyzkie.com. 😉

4. Health

It is paramountly important to stay healthy to reach our goals. To keep ourselves in tip-top shape, one should exercise. Eating healthy is just as important as exercise as well. And ample amount of sleep is essential too!

Though I have been on and off on exercising at gym this year, I already listed details on how to stay focused on working out. On my planner, noted my exercise schedule and routine; plus, drafted some healthy recipes to support my health goals.

It is beneficial to keep in mind that we are more efficient when we are healthy. So it is an important step to a healthier living to learn and understand how our body works, know which food our body needs and which food to avoid, how many hours we need to keep us sharp and which exercise routine works best for us.

5. Spiritually

The sun doesn’t rise in an instant. It always ascends from the darkness of dusk.

“So be thankful even when it’s difficult.” Wise words from Mr. Bo Sanchez.

No matter how difficult life can be sometimes, we can easily put on a smile when we can pull out a gratitude string from our “mental library of blessings.”When we have a grateful heart, we can unravel a happy life and unlock our peace. So let us all be thankful in all circumstances.

Here are a few good exercises to practice our gratitude muscle. Praying before rising up and going to bed. Also, saying “Thank You” to anyone who gave us assistance even in the smallest way is a good work out as well. A “Thank You” to a stranger holding the door for us, the barista who prepared our cup of coffee, the elevator operator who pressed the button up the 3rd floor parking, the grocery bagger who arranged our food in our green bag, the gas boy who filled our gas tank up and cleaned our windshield would go a long way to brighten-up their day.

We can also work a notch higher in practicing our gratitude muscle through supporting worthwhile causes and organizations that we wish to be a part of.

_______________

These five sections on which I based my planning on since 2014 on my journal made me learn so much in maximizing my time, focusing on things that are personally important and attaining “little triumphs” everyday; becoming more responsible and productive each day.

I hope this blogpost would help you organize and plan your 2016 better.

Also, for 2016 be open to new adventures, challenges and responsibilities.  Personally accepted and pledged to an important responsibility of taking care of “Spike the Cactus”.  Raising Spike would mean I have to tend to his needs – giving him a bit of sunlight daily (but not too much for him to get sunburned) and sprinkling his soil (but not too wet, he’ll drown) at least twice a week. Plotted Spike’s water and sun-bathing schedules on my journal to make sure I don’t forget. 😉

In a few hours, we will all be welcoming a new year. Wishing everyone a productive and prosperous 2016!

Beautiful Christmas Trees around Metro Cebu in 2015

“Santa Claus is coming to town!” Currently LLSing (last song syndrome-ing) on this particular Christmas song since my drive home from our Cebu Fashion Bloggers Christmas dinner last night.  Holiday songs has been on loop on my car’s MP3 deck since December 13,  the day I started my 12-day countdown to the most wonderful time of the year – Christmas!

And the holiday embellishments around the metro added to the festive mood, making everyone even more thrilled for Christmas Day! One of the holiday traditions many of us Cebuanos embrace is putting up and decorating a Christmas tree in our homes; where we then set the presents at its foot to be opened on Christmas morning.

But that yuletide tradition is not only limited to our homes. Many hotels, malls and establishments also adopted this tradition. And today, I have listed exquisitely stunning yuletide trees around Metro Cebu in 2015.

1. Marco Polo Plaza Cebu’s Tree of Hope

28 November 2015, Marco Polo Hotel Cebu had the traditional tree lighting of the Tree of Hope. The beautiful tree also gives the guests the chance to reach out to the beneficiaries of GMA Kapuso Foundation through pinning of Christmas Balls. Donating PhP200 will allow you to hang a Christmas Ball with your Christmas wish attached to it on the magnificent floor-to-ceiling Christmas Tree.

Also, from December 16-30, enjoy a grand holiday feast as Cafe Marco serves up a festive season spread with yuletide favorites such as Christmas Ham, Prime Beef, Chicken Relleno and more alongside Cafe Marco’s International Buffet selections.

For Marco Polo Plaza Cebu inquiries and reservations, contact (63) (32) 253 1111 or email fb@marcopolocebu.com.

2. Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa

The beautiful holiday set-up of the nativity scene with capiz chandelier tree on it’s background welcomes you at the lobby. Also, spot a taller tree at the check-in lounge area.

And this holiday season, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa has cooked-up a feast of flavors to be served at the resort’s dining outlets. Enjoy a delightful festive full course meal at Cowrie Cove, an authentic Italian sit-down fare at Acqua and a Festive Buffet at Tides from December 24 -31, 2015.

3. Swissmas at Movenpick Hotel Cebu

A beautiful fir tree adorned with silver trimmings and surrounded by reindeers greets you at the lobby lounge of the Movenpick Hotel Cebu. Also, say hello to Christmas Sandman at the beachfront of the property.

The resort also celebrates Swissmas, that’s Christmas the Swiss way! On Christmas Eve, enjoy a Swissmas family feast at The Sails and indulge in a wide assortment of this season’s culinary delights and classic confections. Included on the buffet spread are premium seafood selections including oysters, prawns, mussels, crabs, scallops and steamed grouper. Plus, the famous Cebu boneless lechon and roasted turkey on the carvery are sure to delight diners!

6. The Giant Tree at The Northwing of SM City Cebu

One thing for sure, this year’s SM City Cebu’s tree is waaaaay better than their tree in 2014. And aside from the Christmas tree, the Christmas Village has been a constant attraction every year.

And take note of SM City Cebu’s Holiday Mall Hours

7. Vito Selma’s Christmas Tree at The Gallery of Ayala Center Cebu

This tree somehow reminds me of a space rocket getting ready to launch to space. Teehee. This artsy tree by Vito Selma is classy and chic that blends well with The Gallery’s motif and style.

Also, don’t miss the Symphony of Lights at The Terraces which shows every night!

And yes, reminding everyone of Ayala Center Cebu’s Holiday Mall Hours:

8. Radisson Blu Cebu’s Blue Christmas

This year Christmas looks bluer than the previous one. And this beautiful floor-to-ceiling lobby centerpiece is just stunning!

9. Fuente Circle’s Tree

The most stunning Fuente Circle Holiday Tree so far, this giant holiday tree is hard to miss when driving or passing by the busy Fuente Osmena  round-about.

8 Cebu Adventuregrammers and their Favorite Adventure Spots

Today, we compiled a list of  Adventuregrammers and their favorite exploits around Cebu. With their instagram feeds showing off Cebu’s beautiful beaches, majestic waterfalls, awesome summits and many awe-inspiring jaunts, these adventuregrammers would make us wish that our weekends were longer.

Let these 8 Adventuregrammers show us around as they trot out their stunning feats around Cebu on

#TheList of 8 Cebu Adventuregrammers and their Favorite Adventure Spots!

1. Balay sa Agta, Argao | Craig Medicielo (IG Name: @itsYouThatiCraig)

Craig Medicielo

Craig Medicielo

“This adventure offers the brave explorer several unforgettable moments. First, the trek to the cave has you facing the rock wall with your nose barely touching the surface and whatever you do… don’t look down. Second and my favorite, the portion of the cave’s ceiling that collapsed letting light in the dark cave. As you stare into the beautiful light you just can’t help but say “Wow”! You just want to stay there and bathe in the light. The trek is usually and hour and a half roundtrip from the entrance and at the end of the cave brings me to my third moment. You get to see why the cave is called Balay sa Agta. I’ll leave it to you to find out!” – Craig

How to get to Balay sa Agta:
Go to the Cebu South bus terminal with Argao as your destination. First bus leaves at 3am. You get off at the bus stop at the Poblacion or you tell the bus folks the Argao church. Then make your way to the Argao Tourist Assistance Center to register. Good news is, they arrange everything for you; Transportation and your cave guides. It’s best to call ahead, they have a website. One of the most organized local tourism groups on the island! So as adventurers, you get to focus more on the journey rather than be stressed with logistics.

2. Cancalanog Falls, Alegria |  Miguel Abas Jr., (IG Name: Vivomigsgee)

Cancalanog Falls

“Of all places I’ve been to, I’d say more than a piece of my heart was left in Cancalanog Falls, Alegria. It is such a mystical paradise, away from the city’s hustle and bustle. And it’s note-worthy to say it is Cebu’s version of Surigao’s Enchanted River,” shares Miguel.
” A 15-minute trek from the jump-off point will lead you to a pleasant surprise. Though the water drop itself is not that majestic compared to some other known falls, the deep catch basin is so inviting. There’s something in its emerald hue that entices you to jump, dive and cool off in its natural pool,” he added.
How to get to Cancalanog Falls:
Going to Cancalanog Falls is made easier by the boom of Cebu’s canyoneering adventure. You can take a bus at Cebu South Bus Terminal bound for Bato (via Barili) and alight in Brgy. Compostela, Alegria where a conspicuous signboard “Canlaob Canyoneering” is erected. Ride a habal2x and enjoy the scenic, albeit winding, 15-minute ride. Fare is not more than Php 75.00 per person (though you can always haggle.) Entrance fee is Php 20.00.

3. Mt. Mauyog, Balamban | Jhez Bagaslao  (IG Name:@jhez4you)
image1
Mt. Mauyog, Brgy. Magsaysay, Balamban, Cebu. “I like this outdoor adventure spot for 3 reasons. First for its accessibility, located at Brgy. Magsaysay in the town of Balamban the drop off point is just an hour away and very accessible from the city. Second, the structure of its peak is unique from other peaks I’ve been to. It has a coral-like rock formation summit. And it’s a good vantage point to have a better appreciation of the scenic panorama of the mountains of Cebu. If you can be a little more daring stand on the edge of the peak, it is pretty dangerous but you’ll have the best view from the top. Third, it offers a lot of side trips for an adventure seeker like me. Trek down to its mountain foot and you’ll find a less explored cave, or how about freshening up in a waterfall just about 30 minutes’ walk away from the peak. And if you want to stay for the night, Mt. Manunggal camp site is just an hour away from Mauyog,” shares Jhez.

There are two ways to get to this place if you’re from the city, one via Habal-Habal in JY Square and the other is through a V-Hire in AYALA Terminal. I suggest you take the V-Hire for convenience. In AYALA PUV Terminal, take a Balamban bound V-Hire and drop at Cantipla junction. Fare is 120 pesos. From Cantipla you have to ride a Habal-Habal going to Sitio Awayan of Barangay Tabunan, it will cost you around 100/pax depending on your hustling skills with the drivers. And your 2-3 hour trek starts in Awayan, you may opt to get a local guide with a “minimal” donation fee or just follow the trail going up to the peak. Be sure to bring enough water for you will have direct exposure to the heat of the sun.

4. Himbawad Falls, Borbon | Caren Bagasbas (IG Name:@itscahwen)

image (1)

“Himbabawud Falls is one of my most loved waterfalls in Cebu. I pick this in light of the fact that it is my first ever extraordinary 3-hour trekking just to see the excellence of this falls… What’s more, I appreciated the perspective in transit there and the river trekking itself despite the fact that it’s a touch tiring and depleting yet it’s all justified, despite all the trouble to be flabbergasted and entranced by its natural magnificence,” shares Caren.

How to get to Himbawad Falls:

Himbabawud Falls (Brgy. Bonbon, Cebu City) It is a thirty minute ride from Lahug and is available by means of habal-habal or if you travel by group you can hire a jeepney to bring you in your jump off which is in Brgy. Bonbon (near the Bonbon Bridge), which may cost P50 one way per head. To get to the main falls, you have to cross 2 waterways and it would take you 2 – 3 hours of trekking but you will enjoy the view and nature on the way to Himbabawud Falls.

5. Malapascua Island |  Richard Ballon (IG Name:@chardichard)

Chardichard.malapascua2

“Malapascua tops my list in Cebu. The island is one of the top diving destinations in the country. The elusive thresher sharks are the island’s main attraction. If you’re not a diver like me and you’re into quiet, relaxing holidays on beaches away from many people, Malapascua is the place to be. I always love the charming and laidback vibe of the island where you can go to any beach you can find and have it all to yourself. You can go snorkeling around the island or hop to nearby islands like Kalanggaman or Biliran. Personally, Malapascua is very close to my heart as great memories were made there.” – Richard

How to get to Malapascua:

To get to Malapascua, take a bus or van from the North Bus Terminal up to the port of Maya in Daanbantayan. It’s a 3 to 4-hour scenic ride up north. Once in Maya, take a 30-minute boat ride to Malapascua. Make sure to arrive in Maya before sundown as the last public boat leaves around that time. If you have lots of cash, you can always charter a boat even during after-hours.

6. Busay Falls | Elei Matthew Tatad (IG Name:@iameleimath)

20150726_162006-01-01-01-01

“Despite its awe-inspiring beauty, Busay Falls remained one of the hidden gems in Cebu. What I love about this one is that getting to the falls is an adventure itself. A trek through a rough trail of its unforgiving forest would reveal a glorious sight, making each step a wonderful labour to take because you know it will be worthwhile.  This “punchbowl” waterscape offers unlimited cliff jumping and a unique natural jacuzzi where you can dip all for yourself.  With this paradise, you don’t need to strive hard to find a special place you can call your own – it is within your reach.” – Elei

How to get to Busay Falls:

Based on distance, it is the nearest waterfall away from the boundaries of the city. From the South Bus Terminal, take a normal bus bound for San Fernando or Naga (Php 30/pax) and disembark at Brgy. Balud, San Fernando. From the corner where a chapel is located, ride a habal2x (Php 20/pax) and inform the driver you’re heading to Busay Falls.

6. Kabutongan Falls | Chester Scott Hinagdanan (IG Name:@chesterscott)

“If you’re a true blue adventure junkie then you’d probably choose Kabutongan Falls as well, here’s why.

As a traveller there’s nothing more thrilling than landing that first sight to this scenery you’ve only heard about before. After a long bus ride and a challenging trek -you hold your breath- and for a moment you’re in a trance, as you slowly and eagerly take in everything around you.

Kabutongan falls is my favorite because it gave the me the whole getaway experience. I’ve tried river trekking, cliff jumping, boulder climbing, upstream swimming, spelunking and canyoneering all in one day! For someone who craves the adrenaline, Kabutongan falls is perfect. It’s cheap. It’s not mainstream and it’s certainly underrated.” – Chester

How to get to Kabutongan Falls:

In just about 4 hours to the south of Cebu, you’ll get to enjoy already the grand beauty of Kabutongan falls. Just head out to the South Bus terminal and ride a bus going to BATO via Barili route. Once you get to Malabuyoc just ask the bus conductor to drop you off in front of Malabuyoc church and take some time to stroll and look around the town. You can even stop for a quick breakfast or lunch in one of their carenderias to load on carbs before you start a day of pure physical activity. Then for P10 you ride a motorcyle or tricycle and ask the drivers to drop you in the entrance going to Kabutongan falls. From then on you just follow the trail and make sure to ask the locals from time to time to make sure you stay on the right path. Eventually you’ll get there and you’ll see a small hut where you could rent a life vest if you want for P30 and hire a guide. You’re all set!

7. Dau Falls, Samboan | Michael Alvin Yu (IG Name:@michael_alvinyu)

image1 (1)

“When talking about beautiful waterfalls in Cebu, the first thing that pops-in my mind is Kawasan Falls in Badian. But hey, that was way back before I visited Dau Falls located in the town of Samboan. Dau falls is one of my favorite places to be because of its beautiful scenery. While on the way to the main falls, you can see a lot of picturesque sub-pools. You got nothing to do but to take a dip on its cold turquoise water. At the end of the 20 minutes trek, you will be welcomed by the beautiful limestone rock formation and the majestic drop of Dau falls. Too sad you can’t stay that long at the main falls since there are no cottages available, but good thing that nature has not yet been modified by human hands.” – Alvin

How to get to Dau Falls:

From Cebu City, Take a 3 hour bus ride at south bus terminal costing PHP160-170. Drop off point is Samboan public market, another 10 minutes habal-habal ride from Samboan public market to entrance of dau falls, and finally 20 minutes majestic trek towards the main drop of the falls.

8. Badian Canyoneering | Rod Ruales (IG Name:@ninjarod)

image
“You appropriately start your adventure by jumping. You look down and all you see is deep water and a narrow passage with rock walls on both sides. Your heartbeat quickens, to hesitate is perhaps normal, you try to muster enough strength to finally jump, your guide counts to 3… And the rest is screaming in all the right ways as you jump! Now repeat that 5 times and include the longest natural slide you’ll ever be on that suddenly cuts and drops, ” shares Rod.

“You traverse through boulders and the beautifully carved canyon for a max of 5 hours. Tired as one may be, the canyon rewards those who are brave enough. “Magical” spots exist that take your breath away and replace it with pure awe. Natural blue pools that take in sunlight and bathes you in it. Water so clear, you’d look like your floating on air in your pics. Plus it helps that there’s a really sumptuous meal waiting for you at Level 1 in Kawasan Falls, you can check @badiancebucanyoneering page for more details,” he added.
How to get to Badian for Canyoneering:
You go to the South Bus terminal, earliest bus leaves at 3am. The travel is around 2.5- 3 hours. All the bus drivers know the Kawasan drop off point. From there, our guides arranged habal-habals for us to get to the starting point in Alegria, travel time is 15-20 minutes max.

It is also surprising that we get to meet new friends just by ordering our favorite Starbucks coffee.  Indeed, Starbucks has become a significant part of our community.

1. Drive Thru Evolved or DTE

Utilizing advanced technology to create an actual face-to-face order taking experience, you’d be surprise that ordering at the Starbucks drive thru feels like you are ordering at the counter.    DTE uses cup labellers where baristas don’t need to write the name or drink on the cup anymore. Baristas input the details on the POS and the POS will print the detail while the baristas make the beverages.

Cebu’s Suggested Instagrammers share tips on how to take creative IG Photos

During the era of analog photography, the only ways to get dibs, tricks and tips on taking great looking pictures are: (1)  ask techniques from seasoned photographers, and (2) buy photography books. An analog photography newbie’s dilemma is even if he is gifted with an eye in capturing great photos, there’s the possibility he won’t get the right composition he wanted until he gets the print, and too late for the mishap to be corrected.

The digital age on the other hand is a totally different photography scenario. Today, you can just Google photography tips and  hundreds of recipes would come up  on how to take a perfect looking captures for your reference. And today, we get to preview the captures through our cameras’ LCD screens as well before we have them printed or posted on our social networking sites.

Do you still remember a few years back when everybody owned a DSLR Camera? Today, a big chunk of the digital camera market belongs to the portable camera phones/ smart phones. Undoubtedly most of us now prefer to bring our handy-dandy camera phones instead of the bulky and heavy DSLR cameras to document our everyday life, and even on special occasions. Welcome to the mobile photography age!

Mobile photography is distinctively unconventional compared to the traditional analog and digital SLR photography disciplines. No rules apply, just point and shoot; and a little help from photo-enhancing apps you’d get great looking photos in a flash. And I bet you are all well-versed with Instagram by now; the mobile photography app accounting each instagrammer’s life and events in real time.

Did you know that Instagram shares a list consisting of a variety of talented Instagrammers to follow from around the globe? These Suggested Instagrammers bring a unique perspective to Instagram by sharing inspiring photos and videos, helping to cultivate the larger Instagram community and inspiring creativity!

Today on #TheList, we rounded up  7 Cebu-based Instagrammers  who are part of the pool of talented Suggested Instagrammers around the world and their tips on how to take artistic Instagram photos!

 7 Cebu-based Suggested Instagrammers

1. RYAN REYES, 2-time Suggested Instagram User. Nursing Phlebotomist by Profession.

“There are no fixed rules in photography, even more so in taking instagram photos for instagram. However composition is everything. It makes or breaks the photo. Another thing is to never stop exploring. There’s always something amazing to photograph just around the corner. Lastly, trust your vision and your voice. Never let the fear of judgement stop you from growing and developing your craft. Because at the end of the day, those followers and likes are just numbers. It’s what you produce that matters most.” – @RyannReyes

2. MARCO PAULO DIALA, 2-time Suggested Instagram User. Web Developer/Blogger.

“I have a messy feed, I basically post anything that I find Instagram worthy. When I take photos, I look for interesting subjects, nice backgrounds, lines, angles and perspective to come up with a great composition. I make sure that everything in the photo looks balanced as well.” – @CountoCram

3. DOLLY PONTILLAS, Fashion Designer/Artist.

“I am often asked how did I came up with my own art style, why “Tomato Cheeks”. I was working on a portrait few years back and I didn’t realize there’s red ink on the side of my hand. You know when you try to remove ink off a spot and it turned out to be a bigger mess? RAGE. But the gates of art havens opened and it didn’t turned out as sh*tty as I thought it would. Here’s some art tips: Draw what you like. Draw whatever the heck you like. Create weird proportions and experiment on colours. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes because it happens and that’s okay. Don’t compete and compare your works to other artists. When you look at other artists’ works, dont be discouraged when you think they did a better job, instead: enjoy their art, get ideas and be inspired. You will never stop learning. You’ll be wrinkly and grey and still be learning new things. Even the ‘pros’ don’t know everything. Love the quirks and imperfections of your drawings and eventually, you will see your own art style developing.” -@dollypontillas
“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” —Pablo Picasso

4. JOHN LEMUEL GODEN, Student.

“Play with light.

Lighting is a necessity in taking good photographs. A well-lit picture looks sharper and clearer than the ones taken in low light. This time, experiment and play with light. You can put your subject before your light source so it displays a silhouette. I personally call this as “Against the Light” technique. Now, position your camera at an angle which shows a perfect flare. Tip, go for natural light. It is better to shot photographs one hour after the sunrise or one hour before the sunset because the light from the sun is just right for a photo and is not that bright.” -@lemm.g

5. LAMIKAAYO, Web Developer/ Blogger.
“When I take food shots I consider the following- plating, lighting, background and texture. I make sure that the food is the focus of the photo and will make the viewer hungry. Flat-lays also work if you want to capture multiple dishes.” -@LamiKaayo
iluvcebu-entry-lamikaayo

6. GRAMIELLE A. AMBALONG, Culinary Student.
“That one great landscape shot will look even greater with a subject in it, say a person or two. When out capturing scenes, try to find an angle a little far back where you get a great perspective of your subject playing a unifying role to the whole atmosphere and size of the space. Works well also with nature, and every other place with a view. A great blue ocean with a lady in a bikini atop a floater taken slightly from above, or a group of friends sitting on a mountain cliff taken from down below; A simple background with a plain subject when put beautifully together will always work magic. Two birds with one stone.” -@Gramielle

7. WILLFREDO JR. , Aeronautical Engineer Student.

” I  love taking pictures. I take passion in capturing that split moment of happiness and wonder. Cebu has been my playground for years. Some of my shots are taken in my hometown, Dalaguete, and some are taken in Cebu City where I am currently pursuing my degree in Aeronautical Engineering. I usually take take pictures of people and scenes that catch my attention. I seldom take staged shots. When it comes to post processing, I barely edit or put filters into my my shots. I want it to look exactly like how my eyes see such moment. Spontaneity is my game. Relieve Moments through taking pictures. Just keep shooting, just keep sharing those moments. Instagram is a diverse community of arts and people where you can learn, inspire and be an inspiration in return. Make friends and let Instagram do the rest.” – @willJr42
