Eshama Bautista-Dumama for Marks & Spencer

“I used to be uber-stylish from head to toe,” said 30-year old Estefanie “Eshma” Bautista-Dumama. But all these changed when she took the roles of a politician, a wife and a mother. She may have adjusted to her life as a councilor on her second term, but taking the role of wife last year, and more recently, a mother to 5-month old Sky, is definitely something new to her.

“These days I always keep my fashion and time very flexible. It’s a challenging 24/7 thing with the three hats I’m wearing. I don’t have a routine. Plans and schedules can change in a heartbeat depending on my baby’s mood and needs. So, there is no “typical day” for me. Every day yields new challenges.”

Mornings are for bonding with Sky. On Eshma: M&S Collection top & FlextFit jeggings

How does she do it? Let’s get to know this multi-tasker.

My day starts…

..focused on the baby. I bond with Sky from the time he wakes up until noon. In between his naps, I check emails and schedules, update work assignments and give instructions while taking my morning coffee. I’m at the office by 1PM and work over lunch, go to sessions. I check on Sky from time to time.Juggling my schedule is…

Not easy, but I do my best. I’m on my first year of being a hands-on mom. I want to witness my baby’s first words, first steps, and considering I’m also a public servant 24/7, schedules can get challenging.

In politics, delegating work to a reliable team can make my job uncomplicated. But if it involves legislative matters, I personally take on the matter.

I’m lucky to have a husband-politician, we both understand what is required of our jobs. But we make sure we go out on a regular dates and keep the romance alive.

One word to describe my role as a..

Politician: strict

Wife: patient.

Mom: Loving.

For work, it’s a stylish blazer over comfortable top. On Eshma: M&S Collection top & FlextFit jeggings.

. I’m active all day so it’s important to wear comfortable clothes that move with you

“Me time” is…

Coffee time. The calibre of on-the-go moms.

My day to night look is…

An oversized blazer, or a white button-down top and trousers, with light make-up. At night, I take off my blazer and accessorize. Eyes and lips take on a darker shade.

A button-down top is very convenient when you’re a breastfeeding mom. It’s easy for me to pump even at the office or inside the car while traveling enroute to work.

Flat sandals work best for me. It can take me from work to leisure at any time.

Me time is coffee time. On Eshma: M&S Collection top & FlextFit jeggings.

In my closet, you will find…

Jeans, white tops, tailored oversized blazers, stylish cardigans, layered skirts, and wrap dresses.

My style has changed from very stylish—dark, fitted dresses and high heels, etc, to a more comfortable vintage look. I somehow developed this love for neutral-colored clothes.

When I shop…

I shop a lot! More for the baby and home these days. Priorities have changed with my new roles.

But I still shop for myself. I do it online when days get busy. I also have personal shoppers abroad. If I get extra time, shopping is the No.1 that pops in my head. A quick visit to the mall de-stresses me.

My rule is pants dictate the casualness of every outfit. I complete the look in that one store from top to footwear.

One of my favorite stores is…

Marks & Spencer. I’m a second generation M&S shopper. I love the lingerie. I’m now a big fan of the FlexiFit underwear and pants. It moves with me. Perfect for my lifestyle as a multi-tasking woman active from day to night.

My fashions tip is…

..more on a principle. Go with whatever style you’re into but be age appropriate. Most importantly, for moms with multiple tasks and are always on the go, never compromise your style! Always try to look good. Not enough sleep is no excuse for not looking your best.

When you look good, you’ll feel good and feel energized. Thus, we can accomplish anything even with few hours of sleep.

Dottie Wurgler-Cronin dresses up for the Holidays with Marks & Spencer

Leadership knows no gender and each captain has a distinct style of steering a ship.

The first Marco Polo Hotel in the Philippines found its first lady General Manager in Dottie Wurgler-Cronin, a Cebuana with 15 years of hospitality experience. She worked her way up the corporate ladder from Food Beverage Manager to Director of Operations at Cebu City Marriott Hotel, to General Manager at Alegre Hotel in Cebu before accepting her next challenge to move to Davao and manage one of the premier hotels in the city.

1. Let’s Glow 2018 is Marco Polo Davao’s Holiday theme and General Manger Dottie Wurgler-Cronin is geared up for the season. On Dottie: M&S Collection Pansy Embroidered Frill.

She’s been “manning” the helm for more than two years now and by the looks of it, Marco Polo has never been busier, the coming holiday season most especially.

This will be the lady GM’s third Christmas with the property. Let’s get to know Dottie Wurgler –Cronin and what Marco Polo has in store in December.

Where do you credit this increase in activity in your hotel?
The robust and growth in the business in environment in Davao contributes to the increase in business activities for our hotel.  Davao City is a top economic performer and has the highest GDP growth in the country at 9.4%.  The City being the home of our beloved President, Rodrigo R. Duterte attracts people to visit the place for various reasons ranging from political purpose, business investment agendas, leisure visits and group meetings and conventions.

How is the Davao hotel culture similar and different from Cebu’s?
The people, staffs we find in Davao are very warm and gracious and ready to please, the Filipino hospitality culture.  Evident in almost all hospitality places you go to; Cebu is becoming a more a cosmopolitan metropolis and the people tends to be transactional though professional and efficient in their dealings with clients, guests and customers.

Davao has many “jewels” to sell to the outside world, as it has not been in the radar of the many tourists that got attracted to visit Cebu.  It is now coming out to be a place to explore and visit for new and repeat travelers to the Philippines.  Davao is more exotic and I believe a destination that attracts the millennial because of the eco-tourism aspect, and clean and orderly for the older generation; the food is fresh and abundance of fruits.

The diverse culture and heritage of the Filipinos is so rich in Davao region.
Cebu has built its name as a Tourist destination for over 3 decades already and combined with the success in its economic growth, it has been an easier destination to sell for the past 20 years.

For Marco Polo’s grand ball, Dottie wishes to see everyone dressed in sheer, lacey, silk long dresses with glitzy accessories that sparkles. On Dottie: M&S Collection Swirl Lace Bodycon.

Is there an edge to being a woman in the industry?
The nurturing instinct or the intuitive trait of a woman plays significant influence in her decision making complementing her ability to be logical and firm.

At what direction did you take Marco Polo under “a woman’s leadership”?
As a woman I lead with my heart and mind combined, like a mother to her children. Lead with a purpose to transform, to grow the business to be sustainable for the Marco Polo Davao Family, our stakeholders and the community.  Resilient and relentless amidst adversities, we engaged our team and focused on our goals.

What would you say are the contributions of a female GM to the hotel?
The concern for details and desire for our associate’s growth to develop and improved their personal lives and professional career.

On a lighter note, Dottie is noticeably a smart and chic dresser. She wears the dark suit required of a General Manger by day and dons a colored one for hotel-hosted events. On themed nights, she dresses to the occasion: a cheongsam for a Chinese affair, a terno infused with the vibe of a Davao local tribe for a formal soiree or a Chanelesque pink suit accentuated with a tribal accessory for a Davao fete. Dottie does dress up to the occasion. Perhaps to be able to style one’s self in the place of work is one of the perks of being a woman.

This will be your third Christmas in Marco Polo. What should Davao expect from Marco Polo for the holidays?
2017 holidays will be brighter and more meaningful as we wanted to show the resilience of Davao City, from all the challenges we faced this year.
Aside from our Christmas events and food highlights, we are also making this as an opportunity to share our blessings to Marawi as we launch our donation drive for the rehabilitation of the city. We encourage our Davaoeno friends to take part and join us in this endeavor, even in this little way to help our brothers and sisters who were greatly affected by the conflict.
The hotel will “glow and shine” from the façade to the interior of the lobby and the dining outlets.

Let ‘s Glow 2018!

And your closet is stocked up for the holidays for sure. What’s your hotel holidays fashion?
Something classy, elegant and trendy, and for the fabric, lacey and sheer.

If you had one wish, how do you want to see the guests dressed for Marco Polo’s grand ball?
Dressed up for a very special occasion with classy, trendy design; sheer, lacey, silk fabric of a long dress, cocktail dress with glitzy accessories. Anything that sparkles!

Meeting the Winemaker Mark Conroy

It was intimate gathering and a gleeful exchange of stories over glasses of good wine and good food at Acqua of  The Shangri-La Mactan’s Resort and Spa. Making the night even more enthralling was sharing the table with the winemaker himself, Mr. Mark Conroy.

Being a noob about wines, it was edifying to be with an au fait crowd on the same table, drinking in as much knowledge as I can about wines. But before quaffing on some good glasses, let us get to know our winemaker first.

IMG_0411

The Winemaker, Mark Conroy.

Currently on his 35th year in the wine industry,  he is genetically destined to be in the wine industry with his Great Great Great Grandfather John Wrathall Bull planting 7,200 vines of Tokay (Muscadelle), Malbec, Mouvedre, Shiraz, Grenache, Riesling, Verdelho, Carignan, Mourastel (Graciano) in 1858 at Glen Osmond, near Adelaide in South Australia.

His  interest in wine arose at a very young age, through visiting the Barossa Valley wineries with his father. At 14 and 15,  he would regularly raid his father’s cellar with great success, until the inevitable. His next foray was managing fine wine stores and then hotels, at the same time tasting and collecting wine.

Every opportunity he would read, learn and taste wine, especially sensory evaluation. His first wine industry position was in sales with the Thumm family in the Barossa Valley at Chateau Yaldara in 1982.

Currently, he is  at the historical family owned Pirramimma Winery overseeing Sales, Marketing and Winemaking. Changed all winemaking, oak regime, fruit purchasing and blending, instantly gaining 5 star status with Halliday. It is his responsibility to taste and blend all wines. For the barrel select International Trophy winner, 2007 ACJ …(worlds best blend London, 2011 IWSC), he tasted over 500 barriques, the wine was a blend of 11 components. Recently they won Top Golds with their 2010 White Label Shiraz Viognier, 2012 White Lable Reserve Merlot, 2010 White Lable Cabernet and scored 96/100 with their 2010 War Horse Shiraz.

Since commencing at Pirramimma, he made and developed the War Horse, Ironstone, ACJ, Eight Carat, Lions Gate, Gilded Lilly, Grey Nomad, Black Label Vineyard Select, Heritage Edition, Wattle Park brands. Also developed the Katunga range, with the GTS becoming a successfully exported red blend.

Once tasted 987 wines at Wine Australia, his diminishing cellar has 2500 bottles and a regular judge for Winestate Magazine.

Food and Wine Pairing

Unquestionably Shangri-La Mactan serves a great fare, and the dinner was made more delightful with Pirramimma  wine pairing. I  sampled 5 out of the 9 Pirramimma wines launched that night paired with delectable dishes.

IMG_0409

Started the meal with Roasted Pecking Duck with scallions, cucumber and Hoi Sin Sauce wrapped in thin pancake. Mark Conroy paired the dish with Pirramimma White Label Petit Verdot – 100% Verdot, it’s deep purple in color. Lifted sweet black cherry and delicate violet and floral nose. The palate displays complex fruit with lingering soft ripe tannins well balanced by American oak. A clean finish and conductive tannins.

Peking Duck

Peking Duck

I love smoked ham and arugula, which is both found on the next dish I savored, the Buffalo Pizza – buffalo mozzarella, tomato sauce, parma ham, rocket and truffle oil. Mr. Conroy chose to pair the pizzas with Pirramimma Stock’s Hill Chardonay – 100% Chardonnay  showing qualities of the vintage offering aromas of citrus, papaya, baked apple pie and flint. On the palate it is ripe and round, with flavors of lemon custard and toasted almonds that lead to a balanced and delicate finish.

Buffalo Mozzarella, Tomato Sauce, Parma Ham, Rocket, Truffle Oil

Buffalo Mozzarella, Tomato Sauce, Parma Ham, Rocket, Truffle Oil

Moving on to the third dish, the Seafood Pasta paired with Pirramimma White Label French Oak Chardonnay. That’s Farfalle pasta  salmon, mussels, tiger prawns, white wine sauce, cherry  tomato, onion, garlic, fresh basil, shaved parmesan and pesto sauce and paired with a glass of 100% Chardonnay with complex nose display of nutty, smoky oak, melon, peach and citrus aromas, with hint of apple and with the palate delivering rich peacharine, butterscotch, smoky almond, rock melon, tinges of mandarin and cashew. A multifaceted wine with fruit, oak and natural acidity in harmony, finishing with great length of flavor.

Saefood Pasta

Saefood Pasta

Sated and gorged, I moved to a lighter dish and made my own Rocket Salad – Arugula with white cheese, a sprinkle of parmesan, a handful of pistachios and cashew, finally topped with dried mangoes dressed in balsamic vinaigrette. This was paired with Pirramimma Stock Hill Sauvignon Blanc Semillon – 77% Sauvignon Blanc and 23% Semillon, pale straw with green tinges in color, with an aroma of passionfruit and pineapple. The palate follows through with tropical notes and a citrus backbone, giving a clean and refreshing finish.

On special occasions, I always end my dinner with something sweet. It somehow puts a great sway on my mind diet and gets me in a happy mood. So for dessert, I had petite servings of some of my favorite confections, nuts and cheeses paired with Pirramimma War Horse. Cheesecake and trifle, orange and ripe mango slices, cashew and pistachios, brie and cheddar cheeses, and dried mangoes paired with a glass of 100% Shiraz, displaying a boquet of satsuma plum, spicy morello cherry, infused with bramble, pepper and mocha notes. The intense palate delivers loganberry, spicy mulberry, star of anise, dark chocolate which is enhanced by the quality vanilla/cedar oak and hints of ripe blackberry. Balanced by firm tannins, well integrated oak, and great length of flavor.

A rookie wine drinker, I could not give a complete and detailed impression on how  the wine would smell and how the notes  would taste just yet. Most of the wine impressions I mentioned on the blog  are from the winemaker himself. Though some notes and smell can be detected even by a novice like me. 😉

It was a chummy affair, that started with low-key laughs to burly giggles, but still maintaining a polished composure. From Doc Nestor and Tito Jayme’s stories of how they enjoyed drinking beer without ice during their teenage years and recalling the most awesome tasting mollusk they ever tasted in Cebu, to Ms. Mildred and Rochelle’s exciting Shangri-la updates,  to  Tita Mayen’s lesson on wine tannins, to Joanna’s fun experience winning a few bucks on Australian Horse Race and of course Mr. Mark Conroy for sharing with us his Award-winning wine creations and a few lessons on food and wine pairing – for real it was a night to be grateful about. Cheers to the  good life!

YoungLife Village Ambassadors – Christian Frederick Nordal Dyresen, A1 Band members Mark, Christian & Ben with girlfriend Ms. Norway Sarah Skjoldnes

I grew up listening to pop music and A1 is one of my favorite boy bands. And yes I can sing along with all  their songs, and I have all three A1 albums on my playlist. These albums were released from 1999  to 2002, before they disbanded in 2000 after Paul Marazzi left the group. In 2009, Mark, Ben and Christian announced that A1 would reform, but without Paul, for a series of concert in Oslo. They have released four new singles, “Take You Home” , “Don’t Wanna Lose You Again” , “In Love and I Hate It” and “Waiting for Daylight” since their comeback in 2009. Their fourth studio album, “Waiting for Daylight”, which was released on October 11, 2010 have sold  3 Million records worldwide. Gifted with great talent and golden hearts, A1 definitely would take on the world again.

A1 – Christian, Mark and Ben

A1‘s Christian, Mark and Ben being the new faces of YounLife Village hope that everyone would get involve and be advocates in helping our less fortunate brothers and sisters. YoungLife Village Project  compromises of building 33 homes, a medical and dental clinic, a dormitory for visiting foreign volunteers, a covered court, a library, a playground and an office. YoungLife Foundation adds that YoungLife Village Project is not an orphanage but a home and a sanctuary where orphans, abandoned and neglected children will be raised with love.

Gillian – Cebu’s Urban Electric Chick

Gillian in Mique Yapching

On Gillian: dress by Mique Yapching and shoes from Parisian

Gillian Stephanie Uang, currently on her 4TH year in Interior Design course juggles  a few styling gigs,  some modeling ,  blog tidbits of her life, about interior design and fashion , and manages her online store (Detail bydetails).  “With everything that’s going on, no matter how hectic it can be, I always enjoy what I do.. if it’s what you love, at the end of the day it never feels like work,” shares the young fashionista. She looks forward to opening up her own fashion and home décor store something that caters to design. After all, design isn’t just about the clothes.

Gillian’s fashion sense.

Gillian would say that her style is more on Urban Eclectic. “I guess you can say it’s a contradiction,” she says. “I like playing with feminine pieces and adding a masculine touch to them. It’s highly inspired by clean straight lines and sometimes a touch of color or accessory. I play a lot with proportion since for me fashion is architecture and proportion is everything.”
Gillian’s tips and tricks to aspiring Cebuana fashionistas

  • “Proportion is everything” – For me, it’s always best to make the clothes fit you.. not the other way around. So play a lot with proportions and make them work around you. Just because it’s in trend doesn’t mean you have to wear it exactly as it’s seen on the runway!
  • Always wear what you want and don’t let other people dictate your style.
  • Take inspiration from others, copying is just tacky.
  • As much as possible don’t pay attention to tags. Elevating the look is all that matters no matter what brand.

John Lloyd Cruz

“One of the country’s top leading men and endorser is no superman!”

John Lloyd Cruz a.k.a. “JLC”, “Lloydie”, or “Mr. Ingat” has gone a long way since his first inception to the entertainment industry. Among others arising from being a co-actor to the big star he is today wasn’t a bread talk for him. Through the years his dedication to his career and passion for his craft has led him to bag several awards from FAMAS, PMPC, and the ENPRESS Golden Screen Entertainment TV Awards to name a few.

Together with Biogesic spends his first brand endorsement fans day here in Cebu. ILuvCebu team was privileged to be invited on his presscon at the Radisson Hotel. Read on and know more about John Lloyd and how he does it!

With your line of work what ususally gives you headache?

Madami actually. Lack of sleep number one, not to be able to eat on time specially during tapings. Since I have to finish a certain umber of scenes continuously which would end me up skipping meals that results to headache.

Was there a time that your love life has given you a headache?

Hindi nman. Heartache usually and its different.

What is you memorable commercial wioth biogesic?

With my 5 years with Biogesic the first one is the most memorable. It’s when I did a 45 seconder add and i have to smile for the longest time. Of course if you are an actor, so much is expected of you when you do a commercial. So you really have to do your best. And I’m very glad the output was great and hits the people!

How Biogesic helps you as an actor?

Biogesic launched my product endorsement career. I remember how after I represented Biogesic several brands started getting me to endorse their products as well!

How do you find the role of Mateo in your show Imortal?

Well this is my first time to do a fiction role. Its very difficult at times especially now as we open a new season for the series. It gets dark and violent at the same time. My character has became so dark and angry. And shooting  the series three times a week for six months already would really bring in the character in to you that at times its really hard not to bring in it with you even when you’re out of the job already.

Does intrigues give you headache?

Intrigues not so much, but there are some that are too much already that they become frustrations. Just like the recent intrigue between I and Shaina Magdayao. Because when people attacks you they don’t only hurt you emotionally but also your family and your loved ones and its becomes really frustrating.

Do you have any other products aside from Biogesic that you would want to endorse?

Yes I do. But first I have to belienve in the brand before i start endorsing it. Because it would be really hard for me endorsing something I am not really using. What i want to endorse now specifically is a bath soap i have been using. But I wont say which brand, not yet!

Who discovered the signature line “INGAT”?

I never expected “ingat” could possibly exchanged my name.lolz!  It was a billiant concept because people could really remember the line directing as Biogesic. I’m very proud of it making a mark to the people.

Was there insatances that you gave headache to the producton people?

None that I can remember, but i hope it never happened. Nonetheless if i did its not my intention or can never be anybody’s intention to give someone a headache right? I really hope i didn’t.

How do you spend your free time?

Im visual so I watch movies at home and do stuff anything that my family and I can enjoy then eat out or simply order some food in then spend the whole day at home. I always wanted to allow myself to come to a certain point where there is nothing I can do anymore. For me its the ultimate leisure when I can finally say to myself “wla ako magawa”.Lol

What can you advise to all the people out there?

Passion, hard work, dedication plus being safe and healthy! All these are key ingredients to doing what you do well. Success and the recognition are just bonuses in the equation. “Pag wala kang sakit ng ulo, wlang sakit na nararamdaman”, you fell good and you look good! Kaya naman mas maayos ang trabaho. Good job ka sa trabaho!

What is your message for all the Cebuano fans out there?

First of all i would like to say thank you so much for the support they have given me since I started in the business. I would not be where I am today if not for that support. To Biogesic for entrusting me to endorse them for five years now. For helping me do my job everyday!

iLuvCebu.com team Doyzkie, Nike , Nowie, and Edd with John Lloyd Cruz.

Jovit Baldovino: Faithfully

17 years old “ABS CBN’s Pilipinas Got Talent” grand champion, Jovit Baldovino, recently had a concert in Cebu. iLuvcebu.com had a chance to chill with the young singer over coffee. From being a siomai vendor in Batangas and coming from a less priviledged family, let’s see how he is living his present fairytale.

Jovit Baldovino

iLuvcebu: How’s was the concert?

Jovit: The concert was successful. Madami namang tao. Lahat nagenjoy. (Lots of people came and enjoyed the concert)

iLuvcebu: How did your life change after you won Pilipinas Got talent?

Jovit: Madaming pagbabao. ( There have been so many changes. There are things I can do now that I can’t do before. I have met different people of different races: white, black and brown. Artists I watch over the television before, I get to work with them on shows.  I also get to be the lead of my very own concert. And I can buy things that I can’t afford before.)

iLuvcebu: You got Cebuano roots right?

Jovit: Papa ko taga Cebu, sa Dalaguet. Marunong nga ako ng kaunting Bisaya. 5 months ago I went to Dalaguet. Sayang di ko nga naabutan lolo and lola ko, who passed away a year ago.

Jovit

iLuvcebu: May Girlfriend na ba si Jovit? (Does Jovit have a girlfriend?)

Jovit: Sa ngayon, marami. (As of now, I have many, and when i say many, Iam referring to my fans. Well as of now, I have to take advantage of the opportunity and work. And I am lucky to have this opportunity.)

iLuvcebu: What was Jovit like before Pilipinas Got Talent.

Jovit: Walang wala po kami before. (Before we really had nothing. Now, I support my entire family and I am my family’s breadwinner. My siblings who can’t go to school before now they are going to school. Our eldest even have to stop schooling  before and have to be a carpenter because we don’t have the money for him to finish school before. Now our status is getting better.)

iLuvcebu: How busy are you?

Jovit: Ngayon nag hohome study ako, and  takbo ako don, takbo ako dito for shows and concerts. Tulad ngayon, katatapos ko lang magconcert and mamaya naman punta kami Dublin, Ireland. So medyo busy talaga. (Now I am under home study and I have to run there and run here for shows and concerts. Like today, I just got done with a concert here and later I’d be flying to Dublin, Ireland. So am quite busy.)

iluvcebu

iLuvcebu: So how many times have you done a concert outside the country and how does it feel?

Jovit: Many times na ako nakapagconcert outside the country. Noon binabasa ko lang sa school, ngayon napupuntahan ko na. First concert ko sa labas ng Pinas is sa Singapore, big concert yon kasi under sa TFC.

iLuvcebu: Do you get nervous before any performance?

Jovit: Uo naman. Hindi naman nawawala. Sa start ng performance talagang nakakanerbiyos. But sa middle ng performance nawawala na yong kaba when nakikita mo mga tao na nageenjoy and nageenjoy din ako.

Iluvcebu: Any hobbies or stuff you do aside from singing?

Jovit: I play basketball and I play musical instruments except wind instruments. I can play the drums, guitar and the keyboard. And my favorite instrument is the drums.

iLuvcebu: Who is your inspiration to sing?

Jovit. Of course my family. Habang kumukanta ako iniisip ko ang kalagayan namin noon. Iniisip ko na ang bilis ng pangyayari noon nasa bukid lang ako nagtatanim, nagtitinda ng siomai.

iLuvcebu: When did you start singing?

Jovit: Since I was 3 years old. Tapos banda banda. At before di naman ako vocalist, ako yung nagdrudrums at nagbabase guitar, di nga nila alam na ganito akong kumanta.

iLuvcebu: What do you miss or crave in Cebu?

Jovit: Lechon! Sarap ng lechon dito! And pumunta kami ng Ayala at nagpagawa pa ako talaga ng I Love Cebu shirt.

iLuvcebu: What’s next for Jovit? Any plans of acting? Who is your dream tandem?

Jovit: Hindi ko pa alam din eh. Basta sa mga fans, pangako ko lang is kung  sino ako noon, pareho paring Jovit sa years to come. If kung may alok na magact ako then di ko naman babaliwalain. But I did acting sa mga commercials. gusto ko makapareha si KC Concepcion. Iba sya eh. At sa genre, kahit ano naman, pero nahihirapan ako magdrama. Kasi nuon sa idol first ko na scene is kailangan akong umiyak. And umabot ng 2 oras before ako napaluha, wala akong magagawa kasi first time ko pa.

iLuvcebu: Did you have any formal training in singing?

Jovit: Wala po. Nagpractice lang po ako sa DVD na binili ni kuya at kung wala po sya ako naman po gumagamit, mahilig sya sa mga rock ballads, heavy at rock alternative. Yung nagbanda banda ako, chacha and R&B yung genre.

iLuvcebu: Who’s the hardest judge to please? and who is your likest?

Jovit: yung hardest iplease si Sir FMG (Freddie M. Garcia). Kasi misteryoso, unpredictable. Pinaka favorite ko naman si Ms. Aiai, kasi iba po sya, after the show nakikipagusap sya sa amin, tapos iniinvite po kami sa party at binibigyan po kami ng budget at baon. Napakabait po talaga.

iLuvcebu: Who is your favorite singer?

Jovit: International artist is Arnel Pineda, but pinaka favorite ko is si Wency Cornejo, kasi para sa akin may tama ang kanta nya. Parang nakakarelate ako.

iLuvcebu: How many albums do you have? What’s your new album? Tell us more about the new album?

Jovit: First album ko is Jovit Baldovino: Faithfully, ang latest is “I’ll do Anything for Love” – mga rock ballads with 2 original songs and yung isa ako nag arrange.

Jandrick Climaco -Sole Happy!

Sole Happy!

Jandrick’s Fushu Breakthrough.
Text by Andrew “Doyzkie” Buenaviaje
Photos by: Doyzkie Buenaviaje & Nike Cagulada
NOTE: This is part of an Article published over Cebu Daily News. Below is my part of the interview with young entrepreneur Jandrick Climaco.
With talent and charisma on his pocket, 25 year old Jandrick “Jumbo” Bernaldez Climaco had gotten Filipino soles prancing with his hip and young shoe creation, Fushu! Jumbo graduated Graphic Arts at 1st Academy of Graphic Arts in Makati, but his innate creativity he inherited from his fashion designer mom, Joy Bernaldez.  As most of the youth his age would go clubbing and drinking, his vigor to succeed is what sets him apart his generation. In the cutthroat cosmos of fashion, he made sure that he gives his customers what they want and what they need when it comes to shoe business; stylish, comfortable, simple and quality shoes!
How long did it take for you to plan out your shoe business?
It took me one year of planning and searching for the style and quality before I started out my business.

Why shoe designing? Who influenced or inspired you to do shoe designing?
I never really thought about the business as a shoe designing job. I just wanted to sell easy shoes. I happened to know what I want and had an idea of how to go about it — from the look, style, comfort, print, etc.
Why did you name it Fushu? What does Fushu mean?
Fushu means kung-fu shoes or funky shoes. if you notice, it is an upgraded style of the comfortable kung fu shoes but a lot sleeker and funkier.

Did you go on a formal training in shoe designing?
I never had formal training in shoe designing or shoe making. But I had help from the people already in the industry.

What’s next for Fushu? Any new and upcoming lines?
All that is still in the drawing board. we recently came out with smaller sizes for ladies after there was a lot of clamor from the girlfriends of our male clients. But the ladies prints mostly follow the men’s prints.

What do you think makes Fushu stand among other shoe brands? What’s Fushu’s edge?
Fushu’s edge is it being within the budget and stylishly easy at the same time.

What’s your favorite Fushu pair and why?
The blue and teal Fushu stripes, the red… But it depends on what i am wearing. they are actually designed to match one’s outfits. Now we don’t have to limit ourselves to just basic and neutral colors. we can step out of the house with vibrant stripes.

How do you feel when you’re walking around the mall and seeing people wearing your Fushu shoes?
I feel really good watching people wear them. One time i was in a store at the mall with a friend and someone came up to me to ask where I got my shoes. A lot of our customers have also had the same experience. They were stalked and stopped. It feels really good when people like what you’re doing.

What’s the biggest challenge you encountered during the planning and executing of your shoe business?
In the beginning, it was achieving the shoe form. recently it’s the production. since it is made locally, we are affected by the limited resources. but we are promptly solving that area.

What do you do on your spare time? What’s your idea of fun? Hobbies?
I hang out with friends when there are events but i haven’t been out much lately. once in a while, it’s just coffee or lunch with one or two friends.I’m actually a bit of a geek. I can stay home and watch anime the whole Sunday or play Starcraft2 with my friends or my brother overseas.

Fushu Shoe Store is located at Joy Bernaldez Building Escario St. Cebu City!
