Celebrate “Reborn” at Universal Studios Japan

Since the launch of flights between Cebu and Narita March of last year, Cebu Pacific Air made it very convenient for Cebuanos to travel to Tokyo, and neighboring prefectures like Osaka and Kyoto, with four flights weekly between Cebu and Narita. Just last November, my recent jaunt to Japan was highlighted with a visit to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka where I witnessed the grand “Reborn” Parade. In celebration with Universal Studios Japan’s 15th anniversary, the theme park has prepared a blood pumping and energizing show spectacle. “Re-boooooooorn” is an over-the-top presentation both for the kids and kids at heart which aims to invigorate and trigger the inner child in everybody.

8 Beautiful Christmas Trees around Cebu this 2016

Christmas trees has long been one of the yuletide symbols that exemplifies an attitude of sharing our blessings through gifts we put under the tree. Hotels and malls have also showed their encouragement and joined the holiday giving activity by supporting various charity beneficiaries of different causes every Christmas.
These trees are more than just a decoration, but also an emblem of sharing and acknowledging of gratitude to make the season a bit warmer and festive. Before the clock strikes 12 midnight, and everyone celebrates Christmas eve around their own Holiday trees at home, let me share with you eight (8) of my favorite Christmas trees around the metro this year. Here’re eight of the most stunning trees around Metro Cebu.

1. Shangri-La’s Mactan Reosrt and Spa’s  Sparkling Yuletide Tree

Radisson Blu’s Art meets Tea

Radisson Blu Cebu hosted an afternoon celebrating the passion in making tea and creativity through art with “Art meets Tea.” Rationing as a stimulant for creativity is today’s rarest Dilmah tea blend “Seasonal Flush” served with its Signature Afternoon High Tea set.

Dilmah’s “Seasonal Flush Green Tea-Park Estate” is a brew reminiscent of springtime by the sea with hints of seaweed, herbs and grass and is recommended with the Dilmah T Bar’s Signature Afternoon High Tea.

“Art Meets Tea” is a watercolor workshop introducing lessons on the basic techniques in watercolor art over Dilmah tea, afternoon pastries, and chitchats and catching ups.  Since tea has long been associated with art, Dilmah’s Signature Afternoon High Tea appreciation and the celebration of art seemed to be a harmonious pair;  igniting a local interest on this English custom. And to those who missed the first one, another session of Watercolor Workshop is happening tomorrow, 19 March 2016,  at Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu. The workshops are conducted by mentors Dra. Nanette and Weebong. To book, call Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu at (63) (32) 402 9900.

Cebu Literary Festival 2015

Sitting on the right-side edge of the table provided for our non-profit organization iLearners Inc., my ears were entirely glued to Mrs. Marlinda Angbetic Tan, Ms. Eileen Mangubat and Ms. Isolde Amante’s discussion on “How to Get Published” during last year’s #CebuLitfest. I personally find the segment the most engrossing part of Cebu Literary Festival 2014. But the day was not a minute short of anything that is literary, which constituted of talks, moderated conversations, exhibits, demos, presentations, book launch and a music and poetry jam.

Litfest 2015

On its second leg, writers, book lovers, and storytellers congregate for Cebu Literary Festival 2015. “This year is just bigger! We have over 30 writers participating and we have Carlos Celdran who will talk about his Imelda shows and I’m personally looking forward to that. We’ve had several meetings with him to bring his Imelda show to Cebu but the timing never felt right. We are still hoping to bring that to Cebu of course but for now we’re happy to bring Carlos to talk about his work here at the Cebu litfest,” shares Cebu Litfest founder Mr. Hendri Go.

Hendri Go

With Cebu Literary Festival happening this Saturday already, my excitement transposed my catching up online conversation with Mr. Hendri Go to a real quick Cebu Litfest Q&A.

iLuvCebu: How long did it take to put this event up?

Hendri Go: Well I think the creative process never ends so anytime an idea comes in or i see something that’s inspiring and I think might translate well to Cebu litfest I take note of it. So the past year has been just collecting ideas. And we brainstorm, Hope and I. Hope Yu of Cebuano studies center is my co organizer. I think the actual preparations we worked on them for three months. More intensely in the last few weeks. In our case, I think I contacted you a few months ago and didn’t follow up til last week no?

iLuvCebu: Yes you did! And we are glad and really grateful that our non-profit organization, iLearners Inc. will be receiving books from NBS and Anvil through Cebu Literary Festival. And yey for we will again have a table to receive Children’s books for donation during the event. Thank you Hendri and Hope for having us again.

And before we end our online Q&A, please tell us what do you want to accomplish with Cebu Litfest? For those who attend?

Hendri: Well hopefully it’s a venue where book worms can congregate and identify as a tribe. We want To connect writers with readers, writers with other writers, in a fun social way. Like a lolapalooza for the written word. We also want to encourage more writing that’s why we have a free workshop this year. Tim Tomlinson of New York writers workshop we’re flying him in to do one. So hopefully that will lead to more writing being done here in Cebu

With the success of its first installment, Cebu Litfest has garnered a huge following and promises an even more exciting bill this year. Don’t miss to drop by (but don’t be shy and stay the whole day, you are very much welcome) this Saturday, June 20,2015 for Cebu Literary Festival 2015. And yes, it’s free! Weddings at The Blu, The Grandest Bridal Fair at Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu

Radisson Blu's Sta Maria transformed into a dream wedding reception during Weddings at the Blu_1

CEBU (26 September 2014) Last September 20 and 21, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu had a lovely treat for all the brides-to-be, wedding planners, and wedding enthusiasts helping their loved ones plan for their big day.

Weddings at the Blu: A Bridal Fair, kept its promise to make every bride’s dream come true by offering a wide array of options in an exhibit of over 30 top wedding planners such as Stanz Catalan, Snoogie Weddings and Events, and Bliss Unlimited. Premier wedding suppliers such as invitation supplier CDI Invitations, video company Digital Minds, shoe designer Shandar, and event stylists Pink Flora and Simple Wishes were among the many other exhibitors at the Santa Maria Grand Ballroom as well.

Over 200 guests were treated to a lavish spread of Eastern and Western cuisine during the opening brunch at the lobby last September 20. There was an abundance of satisfied brides-to-be as they gained new wedding day ideas from the many exhibitors and conveniently checked off items from their to-do lists.

One of the highlights of the two-day event was the wedding gown exhibit, where elegant gowns worn by brides who had their wedding at Radisson Blu were on full display. New packages that include perks like waived corkage, complimentary use of their 22-seater coaster, upgraded table centerpieces, a signature gift from Radisson Blu, and a complimentary 2-night stay in the Bridal Suite, which no other hotel is offering, were announced as well.

Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu General Manager Nishan Silva took to the stage and very proudly introduced their accomplished F&B team who carefully prepared the brunch during the two-day bridal fair: French-Canadian Executive Chef Frederic Cyr, Executive Pastry Chef Allan Barrios, and Chinese Master Chef Peter Yeung, who specializes in special lauriats. Radisson Blu brides-to-be who were present at the fair were thrilled to have tasted a glimpse of what they could possibly enjoy in their own wedding receptions.

To top it all off, joy filled the air as several couples who made on-the-spot bookings received a romantic 3-night stay in any of the Radisson Blu hotels in Thailand, inclusive of airfare and accommodations.

With Weddings at the Blu: A Bridal Fair, the weekend proved to belong to Radisson Blu as they presented the grandest bridal fair in town yet.

SSI HOSTS EXCLUSIVE FÊTE IN CEBU

Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI), the company responsible for bringing our favorite luxury and fashion brands to the Philippines Cebu’s hosted an exclusive cocktail at The Abaca Group’s Tavolata, attended by Cebu’s well-heeled crowd. SSI, led by its Executive Vice President, Anton Huang, had good reason to celebrate indeed. Not only did they recently open Gap, F&F, Muji, and soon Aeropostale in Cebu, but last March 14 marked the opening of Zara at the Ayala Center Cebu Expansion. SSI is particularly proud of Zara Cebu’s 2,113 square-meter store because it adheres to the latest brand image based on its four principles: beauty, clarity, functionality and sustainability. The store’s design emphasizes simplicity as part of its on-going mission to facilitate direct contact with customers making shopping simple. It was no wonder that most of the guests at the affair came fashionably dressed in Zara.

Those who were invited to the private cocktail were in for a treat as SSI pulled out all the stops in showing Cebu its gratitude for the warm welcome. Upon arrival, guests were surprised to see their favorite hotspot, Tavolata, transformed just for the evening. A black carpet covered the industrial concrete floors, silver mirrored panels rose up to the height of the restaurant’s high-ceiling, chic all-white floral centerpieces decorated the venue, and numerous candles were scattered all over the venue for added drama. Throughout the night, guests were treated with free flowing wine and champagne.

It was an evening of fashion coupled with cool music as guests grooved to the tunes of one of the country’s hottest DJ’s, Mars Miranda and the entrancing vocals of Abby Asistio. As part of the celebration, SSI gave out awards to the evening’s best-dressed. Teresin Mendezona and Gretchen Uy were awarded as the evening’s Style Queens, while Protacio Empaces and Michael Sanchez were Style Kings. Derek and Mary Anne Arculli were named Chic Couple of the night, while mother-daughter, Anna Hyatt and Reona Ido shared the Style DNA award. All the winners wore pieces by Zara, but their style was all their own, prompting SSI Executive Vice President Anton Huang to say, “Cebuanos are really stylish in nature and we at SSI are just excited to offer them more choices to fulfill their fashionable needs. As we celebrate SSI’s entry to Cebu, we are also celebrating yet another way for SSI to live up to our mission of bringing many of the world’s best lifestyle brands accessible to Filipinos.”

St. James Amusement Park

December 23, 2011. After a strenuous Christmas shopping cram, my family and I swung by St. James Amusement Park at the North Reclamation Area (across Parkmall). It was their inaugural day and I was excited as my nephew and niece who had been so thrilled with the opening. When we arrived, we were just in time for the firework show, which by the way was AAAWWWESOOOME!

Fireworks – Pardon my shot. wasnt able to set my digital camera. hehe

Entrance for St. James Amusement Park for that day (December 23, 2011) was at 150php (which claims to come with 600php worth of inclusions ^_^) Inclusions are free Coke or St. James water, a Marquee Variety Show, free Wifi, free use of skateboard park(Must have own skateboard and complete safety gear), free fireworks display on special days, free surprise giveaways on special days, free concert and band performances, free token ride, free raffle entry to win a motorcycle, photo cut outs and free duck fishing for the kids. 500php for unlimited ride was sold at 500php for that day. St. James is open from 4:00PM to 12Midnight as per the personnel at the counter.  I have a hunch that the price for unlimited ride will rise during the peak season which would be on January but am not really sure. But with the addition of more rides, the price might go a bit higher (crossing my fingers that they won’t increase the price).

It rained in the afternoon of December 23, 2011 and we were kinda worried about the mud. Good thing about St. James Amusement Park was they installed wooden planks on the walking trail. A great advice I can give the ladies is that do not wear high heels if you don’t want your heeels  getting stuck between the wooden planks,With the entrance fee , you would be given 4 tokens, which you have to surrender 3 tokens upon entering St. James Amusement Park leaving you with one token. The park resembles much like state fairs in the United states, with colorful big blown up balloons and tents and performers. Too bad when we went inside the performers from the Marquee Variety Show were already done with their performances.

Kiddie rides need 1 token and Adult rides need 2. Extra tokens are sold at 50php each. We rode the “Black Pearl” (requires 2 tokens to ride) which we think is the most exciting ride at St. James Amusement Park.

The Skateboard park wasn’t opened yet and there are still a few spots for rides that are not yet opened. There were still 7 ride attractions during the opening and 4 were for kids. We will definitely be back and this time with the unlimited pass for more of the  Black Pearl and bump cars. And definitely would try the Rodeo ride! wooohooo!

PREVIEWed

YES the magazine is 15 years old! ever wonder why she’s still fresh!? I do and I know why!Because she never fails in giving the juiciest trends in life style! The magazine is all about the authority in fashion, providing guides to the electric mix of high and low. Having become the seer of style, the IT mag has seen so much in Cebu but not enough, not just yet. So Preview Magazine for its 15th anniversary October issue will feature the Queen City of the South bringing out to the islands its fashion, beauties, and life styles!

The October issue explores the talents embedded in the queen city of the south. Chief editor, Pauline Juan, has always been optimistic on what Cebu has to offer. So she mines the fashion designers of Cebu and classify its signature creations! But aside from just focusing the spot on the local designers, the mag also features the other artistic movers. Featuring the next generation of furniture designers, must-eat dining places, musicians, and of course Preview is not Preview without the IT girls! Leading cebuana IT girl Kim Chiu just landed the cover page! just like that and more ladies inside. I rather not call them girls.

As I’ve said ladies. Cybill Gayatin, a noted name in events and fashion industry is one of the IT Ladies featured inside Preview’s pages.

October 16 – The banging kick-off was blown at the Penthouse Club in IT Park. Cebu’s “social men” with celebrities Georgina Wilson, Borgy Manotoc, Isabelle Daza, Adrien Semblat, Bea Soriano, Liz Uy, Bianca Gonzalez, Reymund Guttierez, and Tim Yap partying the night away with the editors and press people. It was a party of booze and goose with blings tapping heads to the music, papa americano in particular! I do have one thing in mind up to now. WTH is Kim Chiu that night!? i was really hoping to see that cover girl!LOL

Who else than Cebu’s A-List men; Mikey Sanchez, Kaye Luym, Cybill Gayatin, and designer Edwin Ao.

Just some of Cebu’s crème de la crème.
