This historic site in Punta Engano Lapu-lapu City in the island of Mactan is where Muslim king, Datu Lapu-lapu, fought Spanish soldiers defeating them in battle and killing Portuguese explorer Magellan in 1521.

It’s conveniently situated a few minutes away from Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Movenpick Hotel Cebu and Be Resorts by foot.

Ideal time to visit is on a sunny afternoon at around 3pm.

Every April 27, re enactment of the battle of Mactan takes place here.

Tip: Wear comfortable clothes and footwear when visiting the Shrine. You will be walking on sand and soil.

How to get to Lapu-lapu Shrine Mactan:

When coming from Cebu City, the best way is to ride a cab. Fare from Cebu City to here is around 250-300php (6-8USD). If you are just around Lapu-lapu City or Mactan island, you can ride a “multicab” to the shrine. But if you are not comfortable rubbing shoulders with the islanders, you can ride a cab to the site which would cost you around 150php/ about 4USD.
