where to stay in Cebu

Hidden Beach Resort, Aloguinsan

Hidden Beach Resort, Aloguinsan Cebu

I love going on out of town trips during weekdays when there are not much people in Cebu’s tourist spots. Just recently had some foreign friends over and toured them in Aloguinsan. About 59 kilometers southwest of Cebu City,  the Municipality of Aloguinsan boasts of two charming attractions – Bojo River and Hermit’s Cove.  The drive from Mactan to Aloguinsan is about 2.5 hours, and hammed up our stay by checking in for a night at Hidden Beach Resort. Hidden Beach Resort, Aloguinsan

About Hidden Bech Resort Aloguinsan Cebu
Its 1 kilometer stretch of white sand beachfront and the sunset are the resort’s prime attractions, and those cute friendly dogs too! We were booked in the resort’s cheapest overnight accommodations –  P600 bucks for 2 persons, inclusive of resort entrance, without breakfast. The room is a small hut with a patio, a queen-sized bed and an electric fan. Nothing fancy, just the very basics. The toilet and shower are outside of the room, and shared with guests staying at the other basic fan rooms.  Air-conditioned rooms with their own toilet and bath are also available for P1,500 a night per person. (Posted price as of 7 February 2019)

The property has a canteen but food choices are limited. And there’s only one restaurant, a cafe, that’s a bit close from the resort. I highly suggest you bring your own cooked food, drinks and snacks if you plan to stay at Hidden Beach Resort. You may also bring raw seafood and meat and have the caretakers cook them for you for a fee. Be sure to tell them ahead through the number provided.

Guests can drop by for a day use from 6:00AM to 6:00PM. Tables and cottages are available for rent.

How to get to Hidden Beach Resort by public transport:
From Cebu South Bus Terminal, hop on a bus bound for Aloguinsan and the bus ticketer that you’ll be alighting at Aloguinsan Public Market. The bus ride is about 2 hours. From the market, take a 20-munite  motorcycle ride to Hidden Beach Resort. Be sure to get off at the resort gate and not by the road sign since it’s still about a 15-minute walk from the main road to the resort gate.

Montebello Villa Hotel Cebu

Located just a few minutes away from the bustling road of Gov. M Cuenco Avenue,  Montebello Villa Hotel is set in a 4 hectare hacienda that is surprisingly serene. Never knew a tranquil and quiet spot still exist in this area of Cebu, ’til we checked-in for an overnight staycation.

Cebuano hospitality is evident as smiles greeted my brothers and I the moment we stepped in at the lobby and at the reception upon getting our keycards; hinting us that our stay is going to be a cozy sojourn.

The Premier Rooms

Montebello Villa Hotel has  one hundred fifty (150) guest rooms and suites amidst gardens – giving a more relaxing setting and perfect for unwinding. Forty-three (43)  Premier Rooms,  located at the third wing of the hotel, have been fully refurbished and made available just February of this year.

We made ourselves comfortable in two (2) Premier Rooms – one (1) with two (2) double beds and one (1) with one (1) king sized bed. The complimentary hi-speed wireless internet access and the 32″ LCD TV with digital cable channels are basic amenities we took advantage the moment we settled in. The Premier Rooms also give thoughtful nicety from a fridge to keep our drinks cold, an electric kettle to fill my constant need for a cup of coffee or tea, an in-room safe and a hair dryer so I’d not be hassled of bringing my own. The bathroom is equipped with hot and cold rain-shower and toiletries.

The Premier Room is approximately 30 sqm. space with a refreshing, contemporary resort ambiance;  fresh, bright and warm – each having a color scheme of either chartreuse, terracotta, bougainvillea pink(fuchsia), blush pink and golden yellow. And one of the awesome things of staying at the Premier Rooms is you get the best view of the colorful Bougainvillea Garden.

Other MonteBello Villa Hotel room types: Standard, Superior, Deluxe, Poolside, Junior Suite, Premier Suite, Garden Suite and The Penthouse.

The Food

Montebello Villa Hotel offers four hotel dining venues to choose from –  La Terraza, Cafe Bouganvilla,  The Lobby Lounge, and at the comforts of your hotel room.

Right after we got settled in, we headed to La Terraza – MonteBello’s Asian and International Restaurant. The al fresco dining outlet offers a menu of signature recipes, Asian picks, Spanish fare and American favorites.

We were able to sample and enjoy some of the house’s specialties for our late lunch. Fat, juicy and fresh prawns sautéed in olive oil, garlic and chili, La Terraza’s  Gambas Al Ajillo is straightforward, deliciously good and one of my personal favorites. Another must-try at  La Terraza is the Fried Tilapia – fried tilapia fish with Asian spicy sauce and coconut milk.

La Terraza is situated just beside the hotel’s main pool area curtained with lush bougainvillea, giving you that hacienda-ish and laid-back feel when dining. La Terraza is open from 6am until 2am everyday.

Location

Montebello Villa Hotel is conveniently nestled near the metro’s business and commercial districts, major shopping malls and entertainment. It’s pretty much a few minute walk from Gaisano Countrymall and Banilad Town Center – two (2) shopping complexes with restaurants, supermarket, pharmacies and retails boutiques. It’s about a 10-minute cab ride to Asiatown I.T. Park and around 20-minutes to Cebu Business Park.

University of Cebu is also a walking distance from the hotel. University of San Carlos- Technological Center is about 20-minute cab ride; while University of the Visayas- Gullas Campus is 15 minutes away by cab.

Ampersand at Banilad Town Center (5-minute cab ride or 15- minute walk), The Distillery at The Crossroads (10-minutes by cab), Sky Lounge by Blue Elephant at Apple One (20 minutes away by cab) and Liv Superclub at City Times Square (30 minutes by cab) are the most hip and happening night spots to chill and party near MonteBello Villa Hotel.

Amidst the active and bustling Cebu metropolis, Montebello Villa Hotel is an oasis in the city; a garden resort in the heart of this concrete jungle. Our staycation was an escapade – even without going out of the metro; indeed it was an escape within reach! Can’t wait for the next one. ‘Til we meet again Montebello. 🙂

Moevenpick Hotel Mactan Cebu

Five-star Mediterranean-inspired Moevenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu gives both leisure and business travelers a fun and fresh appeal. Since its grand reopening in December 2012, the multi-million dollar transformation incorporating newly designed rooms, out-of-the-box dining concepts and the unparalleled beach club facility, unique to the Philippines, Ibiza beach Club.

The sea breeze welcoming you to the hotel upon stepping in the lobby makes you giddy to throw in your bags in your hotel room, put on your swim wear and hit the beach or the pool. But with all the excitement rushing through me, can’t help but notice the elegant and stylish lobby, seamlessly  blending white  with  soft blue, green and gray accents, emanating sophisticated elegance and contemporary Mediterranean style.

With my excited nephew and niece, we hurried down to the pool for an afternoon dip. Kids just love the pool, don’t they? It’s where we spent all our afternoon and waited for the clock to turn 6pm and prepare for dinner at the famous Ibiza Beach Club.

With great company, time seems to go so fast. We ended dinner at around 10:30PM and the kids need to hit the sheets. My friends who were also checked in at the hotel, gathered at our suite’s living room and enjoyed chit chatting over tequila and chips. ^_^ Ended up sleeping at 1:30am. With the kids wanting to go swimming at 6:30am, I should now retire and go to bed as well. zzzzzzz.

7AM, Kriiiing, the alarm rang and the kids were the first ones to go out of bed and wake everybody up for breakfast. We had breakfast at Sails, where we enjoyed a wide array of local and international breakfast. Enjoyed the pancakes and cream very much and paired it with a cup of local chocolate drink. After breakfast, it’s now time to go to the beach!

And with white sandy beach between my toes, I know it’s going to be one fine day! We enjoyed a bit of snorkeling and swimming at the beach for about an hour and a half, just the right amount of time to get a good sun kissed skin. ^_^ A short swim at the pool then followed before heading to the room and to have a bubble bath at the jacuzzi before checking out.

A wonderful overnight stay which I wish was longer. It was an enjoyable escape from everyday routine giving me a short breather from my usual daily program. Maybe a 3 day, 2 night stay would be more exciting? Next time. 😉

Sumilon Island, Cebu

(Post Date: February 2011) It was a gloomy and rainy Saturday morning yet I was excited to enjoy and experience Sumilon! I woke up at 430am and grabbed a pair of board shorts, an extra shirt, a pair of boxers, sunblock and deodorant and slipped it on my camera bag.
Sumilon is about 2.5 to 3.5 hours from Cebu City depending on your mode of transportation. If your renting a car/van (renting a car, one way is about 2,700php/ Van one way is 4800php), it would take you 2-3.5 hours to get to Oslob which is the jump off point to Sumilon Island. You could also take a VHire from the Southbus Terminal which costs 200 per person one way and takes you 3 hours to get to Oslob. Another alternative and the cheapest way to get to Oslob is to take Ceres Liner Bus which would take you to Oslob for just 90php for airconditioned buses and 45php for the non-airconditioned bus. Frequency of the Ceres bus liners leaving the South bus terminal to Oslob would be every hour for the airconditioned buses and every 30minutes for the non airconditioned buses. Estimated travel time for buses to arrive at Oslob would be 3.5hours.
Long trips could sometimes make you dizzy so be sure to bring a mint rub or drink Bonamine to prevent motion sickness and fully enjoy the trip.
My friends and I,  assembled at SM Northwing Entrance, hopped on the the resort’s van and departed at around 6:30am. If You are taking a day tour, I would advice you to depart Cebu at 5AM so you could have more time to enjoy Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort. When we arrived at Bancogon, Oslob, we were greeted with a refreshing ice cold Lemongrass Tea which is native to people in Oslob and a cold herby towel to freshen up after a long ride to the drop off point.

We then waited for a pumpboat(provided by the resort) to transport us to Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort. It takes around 15 minutes from the Oslob Drop off point to the beautiful Island of Sumilon!

The 15 minute pumboat ride made me more excited and jumpy more than ever during the whole trip. Though I was wishing the sun would give us hope for a good tan but the sun stayed dark and cloudy.
While storm Jolina is on her full force on the southwest of Visayas, we (on Central visayas) were experiencing stong winds, drizzles and big waves. But it wouldn’t stop us from our excitement in our Sumilon island adventure which was about 8 mins ahead of us.

The pumpdoat toured us around the island giving us a preview of the scenic Sumilon Island. I also took pictures of the Oslob fisherfolks who were fishing. hehe

Our 15 minute pumpboat ride just ended and as we disembark the boat, we were greeted by Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort Staff. It was still gloomy and no sign of Mr. Golden Sun but was still looking forward to all the activities we can do on the island. We then walked our way up to a the Island Pavilion, the resort restaurant, to grab some munchees before we start going around the island.

We munched on a Tuna sandwhich and fries for our mawnin snacks! Yum!

After eating our sumptuous tuna sandwhich, we checked out the room and the facilities of the Island Resort. Sumilon Bluewater Island resort has 14(fourteen) 48sqm rooms which can accomodate 3 guests per room.
Room features a private veranda with lounge chairs, Private toilet and hot and cold shower, mini bar, ceiling fan, WiFi Connection, telephone and airconditioning.
Private Veranda

A private toilet and shower with hot and cold running water
A Mini Bar

After checking out the comfy rooms, we headed back to The Island Pavilion for lunch. Island Pavilion serves a delectable fair of local and international cuisine. We were delighted with a lunch buffet!

After our hefty lunch, Atty. Ethelbert, McBilly and I went to Aquamania to get our snorkel gear and life vest. We then started snorkling and saw some corals and fishes but gave up after 20minutes because waves were big and strong.

We then went to the Lagoon teeming with high mangroves to kayak!

After we took pictures on the mangrove, we then shifted to swimming in the infinity pool and relaxed at the Jacuzzi!

Surrounding the infinity pool are stairs heading down to a “chill cliff” where you can just sit down and enjoy the beautiful sea view and fresh air.

Want a glass of margarita ora shot of tequlia? Order some refreshments and drinks at the bar beside the Island Pavillion.

Chill chairs under the green shades of island trees are perfect when your reading a book, playing favorite games on psp or nintendo ds or even checking your facebook account with the resort’s Wifi connection.

We then went to sand bar, where we spent most of the afternoon enjoying the big waves and the strong winds!

Sumilon sand bar changes shapes and shifts locations around the island depending on the season.

Since the wind was strong and waves were getting bigger due to tropical depression, we headed back to the infinity pool and enjoyed the last few hours of our day tour swimming.
It was 5pm and its time to pack up. But before leaving the island, we had carbonara and tea for our afternoon snacks! Then as I packed my wet boxer (which Wil used because she did not bring swimming clothes) and my boardshorts in my yellow SM plastic Bag, I swore I’d be back!
As Doyzkie and Friends embarked the pumpboat bringing us back to Oslob, I took this pic of a Korean couple having fun and enjoying the beautiful scenery of Sumilon Island! Aneyong hasseyo!
Maybe next time when Doyzkie the explorer and friends visit Sumilon we would go diving? What do you think? hehe
Get your backpacks now and enjoy Sumilon like Doyzkie the Explorer and friends did!
