For a month now, Diane Kristel de Jesus has been in Cebu to focus on managing the preparations for the opening of Crate Café. Hailing from the capital , Kristel and two of her business partners have an ideal of introducing coffee servings made with fresh coffee grounds from premium beans of the Northern parts of the Philippines to Cebuanos.
The tie-up of a barista, an interior designer + the person who currently has the lease on the address and an auxiliary cohort as an adviser seems to be a perfect partnership. Their initial business venture together, the trio is banking on their premium coffee concoctions, plus the view of Cebu’s hilly lands as a bonus.
Today ( 4th February 2016) is Crate Cafe’s inaugural soft launch, with fifteen (15) coffee-based beverages and three (3) Italian soda varieties on the menu. Pastries and sandwiches are soon to be added on the bill of fare. Beverage prices range from PhP85.00 to PhP145.00.
Crate Cafe Cebu is located at Veteran’s Drive Lower Busay Cebu City, just before Maria Luisa Busay Gate. They are currently on their soft launch and is open from 7:00AM-10:00AM, then 5:00PM-7:00PM. They’ll be on full swing next week starting 9th of February with operating hours from 7:00AM-10:00AM and 5:00PM-10:00PM, Tuesdays to Sundays.
Crate Cafe is closed on Mondays except for its day of blessing happening this coming 8th of February 2016. Benediction rites will take place in the morning and store operates from 1:00PM to 10:00PM during its blessing day.

Finally, Go Morita did it! He has opened his own cafe after 10 months of selling delicious tonkatsu sandwiches and rice balls just outside of I.T Park. He used to station at the same spot everyday from 11AM -3PM for a few months selling Japanese snack treats. Eventually many Cebuanos were delighted by his perseverance and his enjoyable tiny meals-on-the-go that they would get sold out in less than an hour.
The new Go Go Cafe seats about 35 customers indoors and about 4 in the al fresco area. Go Go Cafe’s menu also expanded, now carrying new food items and refreshments like coffee, teas and non-coffee beverages.
Ordered my favorite Go Go Tokyo’s Tonkatsu Sandwich (120Php) and paired it with iced Cafe Mocha (120Php). The Tonkatsu Sandwich tastes waaay more delicious than his previous version, with the breaded pork cutlet fried perfectly with the outer layer giving out a good crunch and a tender juicy meat on the inside in a more a flavorful sauce.
Enjoyed my lunch here yesterday and can’t wait to try the other dishes Go Morita has whipped up for us, the Cebuanos.
Go Go Cafe is on its second week of soft opening. Go Morita’s still ironing the running of his new business venture, training his staff to better serve his guests and perfecting everything to make sure Cebuano’s appreciate what he has kindled in the kitchen.

Warm lights, wood textures and beautiful weave patterns give the newly renovated Tides a modern feel with a Filipino flair. The fully updated all-day dining restaurant seats approximately 372 guests, indoor and al fresco, giving more guests to delight in Tides’ international fare.
Tides is centered around fresh foods prepared to order in full view of diners, at a variety of internationally themed stations. Stations include Asian Selection, Noodles, Western, Raw and Fresh, Charcoal Grill and Rotisserie and Dessert.
Tides also added a station that the little ones would definitely love, the Kiddie Station! Kids get to choose any food from a spread of kids’ favorite dishes and even get the food themselves since the chafing dishes are reachable by kids as tiny as 3 feet. And yes, candies as much as they want!
Cebu is known for having the best roasted pig recipe in the country. And when at Shangri-La Mactan, you don’t have to go outside the hotel to get your fill, for Tides is serving roasted pig fresh from their kitchen’s very own charcoal pit every dinner. Complete the experience by dipping the meat with either liver sauce or vinegar and chili. Yum!
The spread at Tides is insanely good! With more than 150 really delectable dishes to choose from, dining at Tides is a feast! Risotto, La Galbi at the Korean station, Chicken Cordon Blu at the Western Station and Lechon at the Charcoal Grill and Rotisserie Station to name a few of my Tides buffet favorites.
Risotto at Tides
And we have to thank Head Chef Mark Mulder and Chef de Cuisine Alvin Lee for the wonderful International spread!
Chef Mark Mulder now heads the culinary team at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu, taking the lead in the renovation of Tides, the resort’s all- day dining outlet.
“People are excited with the re-opening of Tides. While considered the breakfast hub for our in-house guests, we envision Tides as an all-day dining restaurant, market service- style, where guests enjoy the best of international cuisines,” Chef Mark said.
While Chef Alvin is in charge of all Tides activities related to the kitchen – from menu creation, kitchen staff management and restaurant inventory to plating design. He joined Shangri-La Tides Team at an auspicious time, with a fully renovated all-day dining restaurant as playground to showcase his culinary expertise.
“I am truly thrilled to be joining the Shangri-La group for the first time. I look forward to leading the Tides team, especially after a substantial renovation of the restaurant. As an interactive lifestyle restaurant, Tides’ cuisine philosophy is simple – ‘fresh out of the pan, hot off the grill and right out of the oven.’ We are excited to welcome back Tides’ loyal patrons,” said Chef Alvin.
And I am ending this blog with a shout out to all Tides servers, who deserve to be commended for their outstanding courtesy and service. All of you made our dining experience more snug and cushy. Thank you! ^_^
Tides will officially reopen on October 29, 2014, Wednesday.

September 2, 2014, Tuesday. J.CO simultaneously opened its 27th and 28th branches in the country. SM City Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu chain stores would delight J.CO fans in the metro and the rest of Cebu including our neighboring provinces in the Visayas.
iLuvCebu was invited to attend the blessing and ribbon cutting of J.CO SM City Cebu Branch, an hour before the store opened to J.CO patrons. Personally witnessed the long line of J.CO fans who were giddy to get boxes of the well loved soft bite doughnuts. According to the mall’s security guard, the first person standing in line was there since 9pm of September 1. That’s just how she loves her J.CO doughnuts!
At exactly 10 in the morning, the first customer got a great surprise from J.Co for her enthusiasm and effort, she was rewarded with a year supply of J.CO Doughnuts! The second and third standing in line got their rewards as well. J.CO extended the sweet treats to the next 50 customers, each getting their half dozen of J.CO doughnuts of their choice.
So have you had your fill of J.CO’s soft bite doughnuts already? Be sure to grab a box or two today. And when buying at J.CO SM City Cebu branch, be sure to join the #JCOSMCityCebu Selfie Contest and win exciting treats from J.CO!
Here’s how to qualify!
Step 1: Take a selfie inside SM City Cebu’s J.CO with your favorite J.CO Doughnut and drink
Step 2: Like SM City Cebu (Official) on Facebook
Step 3: Upload photo on Facebook with a caption on why you love J.CO. Add the official hashtag #JCOSMCityCebu and Tag @SM City Cebu (Official)
SM City Cebu will choose 5 best “Selfie with J.CO” photos and will be rewarded with a box of a dozen doughnuts and a drink of their choice. Winners will receive a personal message from SM City Cebu (official) account on September 8, 2014 with details on how to claim their prize.
My first bite of these chewy treats was way back in 2009. I was walking around Bugis Junction Singapore and noticed a queue at a stall. The scent of sweet and freshly baked puffs was irresistible. I was really intrigued and lined up for 20 minutes to get a box of 6 and from then on, I was hooked. So every time I visit the Lion City, I made it a point to munch on my favorite Chewy Junior Choco Almond Crunch.
But now, I don’t have to fly to Singapore just to have a bite of these heavenly puffs. I can get my fill of the chewy goodness at JCentre Mall, Ayala Center Cebu or at Robinsons Cybergate.
Get to sample every flavors by getting a box of petite Chewy Juniors for just 25php a puff. And when you have picked your favorite flavors, buy the regular sized Chewy Junior to make sure your cravings are satisfied. Regular Sized Chewy Junior is priced at 35php-45php depending on the flavor.
So what makes every Chewy Junior Puff really good? The puffs are made with special dough, the cream with soya milk and made even better with a variety of flavors, freshly baked everyday! Yum!
Here are a few of the team’s favorite Chewy Junior flavors: Cream Cheese, Chocolate Almond Crunch, Almond Sweetheart, Peanut butter Crunch, Blueberry Glaze Cheese Curd, Butterscotch Crunch, Coffee Muesli Crunch, Strawberry Glaze Cheese Curd and Apple Delight!
Also enjoy different flavored creams on the following puffs: chocolate cream inside Chocolate Oreo Crunch, Skippy Cream inside Peanut Butter Crunch, Cream Cheese inside Cheesecake Premium Puffs and Cookie Butter inside Cookie Butter puff.
Looking forward to taste the Chewy Junior Premium and Double Premium flavors ( 55php and 65php respectively). Definitely on my next Chewy Junior visit!

I was feeling a bit homesick after two weeks of vacationing, and dining at a new resto here in the metro would be the right way to welcome me back. It was a random dinner with my blogger friends Marco, Jeemah and Atty. Ethelbert and we had been talking about visiting this new rib place and twas about time we did.
Ribpublic is located at the road behind Coco Mall and is on your left when driving along the one way street. We tried 4 of 6 offerings on the menu. The Ribpublic, Wild West Wings, Space Shrimps and Pop! Fish and Chips.
Attentive and friendly staff is always a plus to any restaurant and Ribpublic didn’t fall short in this area, smiling waiter and cashier just set the mood that its going to be a good dinner. 🙂
We started the meal with Ribpublic’s Pop! Fish and Chips (138php). 3 battered fish fillet with fries on the side and tartar sauce. I personally find both the fries and fish too oily than the usual. The fish could use a bit of a lemon slice and pepper to taste too.
Butter Garlic Space Shrimps (168php). The serving came with 12 pieces of shrimps in butter and garlic. Tasted good but this should not be served on wax paper, for the paper tends to soften as the oil sips in, and bits of wax paper mix with the butter oil as you scoop in.
Buffalo Wild West Wing (158php). This one would be my favorite at Ribpublic. 6 pieces of chicken wings with chili sweet sauce. Warning, at first bite, the spice might be a bit strong, but fades away very quickly and mellows down to sweetness. Also available in garlic parmesan.
And finally, The Ribpublic (188.00ph)! Smoky sweet ribs with rice and corn kernels on the side. Though its not the ‘meat falls off the rib’ kind, its serving size would give you a big burp. And the smoky sweet flavor didn’t get through the the inside layer of the meat, so better ask for extra sauce.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that Ribpublic had chairs and tables set up on the sidewalk. I hope they can take it out, and let the sidewalk be used as a sidewalk. Plus it is a bit appalling, for the stench from the drainage can be smelled when seated at the sidewalk set up.
But I love the chalk art and the space mural inside the resto! And they have a clean restroom too! <3
Can’t wait to try their garlic parmesan Wild West Wings and Sweet and Spicy Shrimps. ‘Til we meet again Ribpublic. ^_^

Magkadugay, magkalami! A famous tagline in Argao referring to the food they’re best known for, Torta de Argao. A 2-hour drive or about 2.5 hour ride via bus from the city of Cebu, Cabecera de Argao in Poblacion Argao is a remnant of the Spanish era that is well preserved and maintained. Just a street away from the beautiful Cabecera de Argao and Saint Michael the Archangel Parish Church, is the home of Argao’s original Torta, Chitangs.
St. Michael The Archangel Church Argao
It was around 33 degrees celsius and we did not miss the chance to rekindle our love for Argao’s Guilang Hot Tsokolate! Had a cup of the earthy, creamy and bold hot tsokolate together with the best Torta in Argao at Chitang’s!
The original Chitang’s Torta
So what makes Chitang’s Torta the best in Argao? It’s these two ingredients and the way they bake it! Early morning tuba or locally called lina and lard from the preparation of the humba are mixed into the batter. It is then cooked in an improvised oven, called hudno, using coconut husks as charcoal.
Torta de Argao
Magkabahaw, Magkalami as Chitang’s would say. The longer it stay on the shelf, the better it would taste. Grab a box for take away for 395php for the big sized Torta. You can also buy 4 for 100php for the small sized Torta and 3 for 100php for the big ones.
May it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, a sweet little something ends every food affair. We always wrap up a good night with an awesome dessert or great cup of tea latte. For this night, we unanimously agreed to have cheesecakes and crepes, so we headed to Tymad Bistro. The bistro offers good desserts ranging from 120- 290php. Here’re a few of what we enjoyed that night. 🙂
Tymad Bistro Parfait Au Chocolat, 140php
Tymad Bistro Mango Cheesecake, 150php
Mango Cheesecake would be one of my favorite. Made with Philadelphia cream cheese, the texture is smooth yet a bit gelatinous but you won’t struggle to find the sweet mango taste we love.
Tymad Bistro Blueberry Cheesecake, 150php
Blueberry Cheesecake. Also made with Philadelphia Cream cheese, this is pure smooth layers of cream cheese melting with the blueberry jam in your mouth and finishes with the crunchy crust.
Tymad Bistro Tarte chocolat Aux Noiz, 140php
Tarte Chocolat. A bit of a tough dessert – it’s like a softer version of a nougat candy but without an overpowering sweetness.
Tymad Bistro Nutella Crepe
Well, no need to explain this. Nutella and crepes are meant to be. <3
In 2011, Oslob Cebu was placed on the map with an attraction that’s both exciting and controversial. The buzz on swimming with the gentle giants instantly made Tan-awan Oslob one of Cebu’s top tourist destinations after some visitors posted pictures of their adventure swimming alongside the whale sharks on social media.
How to get there?
Oslob is about 2.5 to 3.5 hours from Cebu City depending on your mode of transportation. If your renting a car/van (renting a car, one way is about 3,000php/ Van one way is around 4,000php), it would take you 2-3.5 hours to get to Oslob. You could also take a VHire (Van for Hire) from the South VHire Terminal which costs around 250 per person one way and takes you 3 hours to get to Oslob. Another alternative and the cheapest way to get to Oslob is to take the bus which would take you to Oslob for just 160php for airconditioned buses and around 120php for the non-airconditioned buses. Frequency of the bus liners leaving the South bus terminal to Oslob would be every hour for the airconditioned buses and every 30minutes for the non airconditioned buses.
Cebu South Bus Terminal
There are several resorts in Oslob. For this trip we opted to stay at Lagunde Beach Resort in Lagunde Oslob. Its around 10 minutes away from the Tan-awan where the whale sharks are. We booked the house for 3,500php for a night (good for 6-8 people) . Not bad at all! Towels are provided so no need to bring one. ^_^
Our porch’s view at Lagunde Beach Resort
Sunrise at Lagunde Beach Resort
Lagunde Beach Resort
After checking in at the resort, now it’s time to go around and see Oslob. Going around Oslob is easy. Just hail a tricycle, a multicab or a bus. Fare is roughly 8-12php.
Places of interest when in Oslob:
1.Church of the Immaculate Conception , Cuartel and Baluarte (Boljoon).
The municipality before Oslob, Church of the immaculate Conception in Boljoon was built in the early 1800s and is such a beauty until now. And just across the church is a cuartel, an unfinished building resembling a Spanish-era barracks stand. And at the cuartel you can see the ruins of the watch tower or baluarte.
Church of the Immaculate Conception
your view on the right when standing in the cuartel
2. Tumalog Falls
To get to Tumalog Waterfalls, alight at “Eskina Saging” Tumalog Oslob or just tell the driver that you will be going down where you can ride a motorcycle or locally called “Habal-habal” to Tumalog Waterfalls. The habal-habal ride is steep but it’s all worth it when you reach the Tumalog waterfalls or “Mag-ambak Falls” as per our habal habal driver. The motorcycle ride is at 30php one way and another 30php going back down the highland. And don’t forget to advice your habal-habal driver to go back at a specified time to get you for its the only transportation down the mountain. Well you can always walk about .75 kilometers down. 🙂 Or you can bring your car with you up the mountain. There’s a parking space provided before descending to the waterfalls. Taking a cool dip in the water of Tumalog falls is a great weekend chill after a week of hard work at work or school. And the gentle fall of cool water above is just like drops of chubby rain. ^_^

Driving up Nivel Hills, you would not miss this modish cafe just right after Bellini. But don’t be intimidated by Dolce Cafe’s posh tone for their prices would not cost you an arm. With desserts ranging 80php up, breads from 50php up and coffee & shakes from 75php to 130php, Dolce’s offerings are worth every dime.
The cafe seats around 12 people al fresco and around 35 indoors. Edd and I were greeted by the aroma of fresh espresso when we entered the cafe. Not to mention the modern and chic arrangement and design of the cafe added up to the excitement to try out the bistro’s specialties.
Dolce Cafe, who just had their soft opening 13th of February 2012 , blazes products that are loved by the owners. One of Dolce Cafe’s bestsellers are their buttercakes. Mango, ube (purple yam) and the classic buttercake are sold at 80php a slice. Most customers rave about the buttercake and mango, but the ube buttercake would be my personal pick. 😉
Dolce’s Chocolate Trifle -layers of mouse, moist cake and cookie crumbs topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with choco syrup. I bet your already slobbering. 🙂
Dolce Delight. This was my friends E and Homer’s dessert. It looked so foxy I had to let Edd take a picture of it. hehe. Will definitely try this when we go back this weekend. Price: 150php.
Dolce’s Raspberry Roar. Iced Espresso in a tall glass with raspberry syrup at the bottom. Stir and enjoy! Priced at 130php.
Dolce’s No Sin Apple Oats. Apple, Cinnamon, oatmeal and oats topped with whip! No Sin Apple Oats is a drink invented by Holly Dychangco, CEO Chrome architecture & Interior Design Studio. Holly also is responsible for the interior design of the swanky Dolce Cafe.
No Sin Apple Oats
And before heading out, check out some of the nifty stuff for sale!
Great looking coffee and tea mugs! ^_^
Had my sugar fix for tonight and looking forward to another sweet journey this weekend to Dolce Cafe! 😉
I just love desserts and after hearing from my good friend Patty Taboada about her new red velvet love affair at this 5 month old meek cupcakery in Escario, I apprised myself to fleet and grab some of those cupcakes at Sweet Little Things. Proprietors PJ Lee, who by the way was my college classmate, with wife Sandra baked and gave out the Sweet Little Things cupcakes to friends during the holidays, and soon enough got orders through SMS from the same people who they were giving the SLT cupcakes as gifts. The demand grew even more which made them decide to open a modest 15 seater cupcakery last year of November.
SLT Cakes & Coffee
Sandra shared with iLuvCebu.com that their cupcakes are made from fresh and high grade ingredients. And every product that their selling at Sweet Little Things are products that are loved both by PJ and her, from their own recipe cupcakes to the choice of coffee and beverages sold at the store. The store’s interior design and furnitures are designed by PJ’s architect and furniture designer siblings making the store a reflection of the Lee family’s taste, a good one that is.
Now let’s meet the cupcakes at Sweet Little Things! Pj and Sandra currently has 10 Sweet Little Things cupcake varieties. Cinful Apple , The Red Velvet, Flourless Mudpie, Blueberry Crumble, Monkey Business, Triple Chocolate, Lemon Poppyseed, Cappuccino, Cookies & Cream and Strawberries ‘N Cream.
Sweet Little Things Flourless Mudpie
Dense crust yet moist and chewy on the inside, that’s how I would describe SLT’s Flourless Mudpie. It’s not that sweet so you’d still have an appetite to taste one or two more of their cupcakes on one sitting.
SLT’s Lemon Poppyseed
This I would say is my SLT’s favorite. The lively sunny citrusy smack on the soft cake with the cream topping and the poppyseeds’ sparse crunch is sublime! And did I mention that they use real lemon zest for the SLT’s Lemon Poppyseed? 😉
Sweet Little Things
And after having 2 cupcakes (Flourless Mudpie and Lemon Poppyseed) at Sweet Little Things, I just have to grab 6 other flavors of SLT cupcakes to go. 🙂 Go grab some at 158php for a box of 3 and 298php for a box of 6!
