Father’s Day is just around the corner and if you haven’t found a place yet to treat your father on his special day, you might want to check out The Port Buffet Restaurant located at the ground floor of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The place offers authentic Filipino dishes at affordable prices. A lunch buffet at The Port only costs PHP 279, and Dinner at PHP 379. There’s also a late night buffet at the restaurant for PHP 189 (10:30 PM to 2 AM). Unlimited oysters are served every lunch, and Lechon during dinners.

The Port’s menu changes regularly so there’s always something new to look forward to at the restaurant. Last year, the place featured German cuisine and it was jam-packed with guests wanting to sample some of the most authentic dishes from Deutschland including Beef Goulash, Sauerkraut, and Pork Schnitzel.

If you’re not planning on taking dad out for lunch or dinner, you can always treat him to an eat-all-you-can Halo Halo for only PHP 99. The Port is the first restaurant in Cebu to offer an all-day Halo Halo buffet.

Lately, casinos have had to broaden their market and cater to new customers since online casino sites have taken a huge slice of their revenue. When InterCasino, an internationally-recognized casino site that provides support for multiple languages was launched, Las Vegas establishments fought for survival by providing better stage shows and improving their customers’ dining experience. Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino seems to be doing the same thing, as it is constantly improving its interiors and dining offers in order to keep its customer base intact and ward off the online portals increasing market share since their launch in 1997.

Warm lights, wood textures and  beautiful weave patterns give the newly renovated Tides a modern feel with a Filipino flair.  The fully updated all-day dining restaurant seats approximately 372 guests, indoor and al fresco, giving more guests to delight in  Tides’ international fare. 

Tides is centered around fresh foods prepared to order in full view of diners, at a variety of internationally themed stations. Stations include Asian Selection, Noodles, Western, Raw and Fresh, Charcoal Grill and Rotisserie and Dessert.

Tides also added a station that the little ones would definitely love, the Kiddie Station! Kids get to choose any food from a spread of kids’ favorite dishes and even get the food themselves since the chafing dishes are reachable by kids as tiny as 3 feet. And yes, candies as much as they want!

Cebu is known for having the best roasted pig recipe in the country. And when at Shangri-La Mactan, you don’t have to go outside the hotel to get your fill, for Tides is serving roasted pig  fresh from their kitchen’s very own charcoal pit every dinner. Complete the experience by dipping the meat with either liver sauce or  vinegar and chili. Yum!

The spread at Tides is insanely good! With more than 150 really delectable dishes to choose from, dining at Tides is a feast! Risotto, La Galbi at the Korean station, Chicken Cordon Blu at the Western Station and Lechon at the Charcoal Grill and Rotisserie Station to name a few of my Tides buffet favorites.

And we have to thank  Head Chef Mark Mulder  and Chef de Cuisine Alvin Lee for the wonderful International spread!

Chef Mark Mulder now heads the culinary team at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu, taking the lead in the renovation of Tides, the resort’s all- day dining outlet.

“People are excited with the re-opening of Tides. While considered the breakfast hub for our in-house guests, we envision Tides as an all-day dining restaurant, market service- style, where guests enjoy the best of international cuisines,” Chef Mark said.

While Chef Alvin is in charge of all Tides activities related to the kitchen – from menu creation, kitchen staff management and restaurant inventory to plating design.  He  joined  Shangri-La Tides Team at an auspicious time, with a fully renovated all-day dining restaurant as playground to showcase his culinary expertise.

“I am truly thrilled to be joining the Shangri-La group for the first time. I look forward to leading the Tides team, especially after a substantial renovation of the restaurant. As an interactive lifestyle restaurant, Tides’ cuisine philosophy is simple – ‘fresh out of the pan, hot off the grill and right out of the oven.’ We are excited to welcome back Tides’ loyal patrons,” said Chef Alvin.

After running some errands at a nearby mall in North Reclamation Area, I gave myself a good pat at the back for being so productive and  said “hey, me, myself and I need to celebrate!” haha. Okay okay, that’s just a lame excuse. The truth is , I feast a lot (the blog gives it away , no mystery there). Well, as Julia Child said, “People who love to eat, are always the best people.” #TrueThat

So I decided to take on the buffet spread of Tokyo Table. Been hearing a good bunch of people talking about Tokyo Table‘s great buffet, but I tend to temper down my expectation on buffets for I know only a few great places here in Cebu that carry an awesome food wagon.

I was greeted with a warm smile as I entered the restaurant and walking to my table, waitresses I pass by welcomed me with smiles, that made me feel more dashing. Teehee.

So here’s the spread. One side of the buffet are raw meat for grilling. Squid, shrimps, beef, chicken, pork, hotdogs and  hams. On the other side are asian favorites like lemon chicken, korean pork barbecue, spicy squid and etc. At one corner is  a dimsum station where you can find the soup, siomai and some steamed ribs. Some sushi varieties,  Japanese rolls, tempura and calamares on the chef’s spread. There’s also a dessert station, where you can choose from an array of cakes, an ice cream station and DIY halohalo! You also get an unlimited fill of sodas and iced tea.

My Tokyo Table favorites would be the orange chicken, spicy squid, tempura and korean barbecue. And moving to the grilling spread, the spicy beef, chicken and pork  bulgogis are my top picks.

And will I come back? YES! Another great buffet place added on my list!

My brother Reymond and I were so impressed with the buffet we forgot to take a shot of the restaurant’s ambiance. We had been going back and forth to the buffet and the dessert rack! Teehee.
