Cebu Pacific Air adopts Mindanao the Phil. Eagle

16 October 2015, Philippine Eagle Center, Malagos DavaoCebu Pacific Air declared adopting Mindanao the Philippine Eagle. For five years, the thirteen year old male eagle will have his needs (food and veterinary expenses) taken care  of the the country’s leading budget airlines, Cebu Pacific Air.

Mindanao is one of four Philippine eagles inside the facility labeled as “Ambassadors for Education.” These birds give the visitors of the Philippine Eagle Center a glimpse of their grace and at the same, have guests learn facts about the remarkable bird specie.

CebOurEagles6

Mindanao the Philippine eagle‘s adoption strengthens Cebu Pacific Air’s commitment to act on environmental conservation issues that are greatly linked to the country’s rich biodiversity. Cebu Pacific Air’s Director of Products Ms. Apple Ignacio hopes that by adopting Mindanao the Philippine Eagle, it  would encourage people to take part in saving our Philippine Eagles, one of the most endangered bird species in the world today. The adoption of Mindanao the Philippine Eagle costs Php125,000 a year.

Philippine Eagle Center has 33 Philippine Eagles under their care and has contributed hugely in the study of preserving these beautiful bird specie. Today, there are less than 400 Philippine eagles in our Philippine forests. With Cebu Pacific Air’s contribution to the facility though Mindanao’s adoption, this would go a long way in educating people and  help protect these magnificent birds. And you too can help #CEBourEagles! Visit www.PhilippineEagleFoundation.org to know how.

Guining Falls, Cebu City

It may not be as majestic as Kawasan in Badian or as mesmerizing as Dao in Samboan but Guining Falls treats its guests with a scenic trek in the Tabonan Forest, a cool intimate private pool and it’s just within Cebu City!

Guining 5

The trek from Tabunan Barangay Hall to Guining Falls takes about 25 minutes, passing through a coconut plantation and into the inner section of Tabunan forest. Tabonan came from the word “tabon”  or scrubfowl, a bird specie which used to live in concentration in the area. But sadly today, there’s no more sightings of scrubfowls or tabon in Tabonan Forest.

Tabunan/Tabonan is 1 of the 31 barangays comprising the Cebu City Highlands.

Guining Falls 1

Guining Falls 2

Guining 6

Guining Falls 3

How to get to Guining Falls:

From Cebu City V-hire Terminal (now located at the back of Compania Maritima Building, SRP), ride a van bound for Balamban. Tell the driver to drop you off at “iskina Barangay Cantipla and Barangay Tabunan/Tabonan” (corner of Barangay Barangay Cantipla and Barangay Tabunan/Tabonan). From there, ride a habal-habal (motorcycle for hire) to Tabunan/Tabonan Barangay Hall.

Be sure to let your habal-habal driver wait for you until you are done trekking, because he’ll be your only way to get back to the main road. Then instruct your driver to drop you off in Busay, just at the foot of Mountain View Resort/ Lantaw Restaurant. From there, you can ride a jeepney or another habal-habal to JY Square.

Note: Before hopping on to a Habal-habal, be sure that you have negotiated the fare for the trip. The trip is from the corner of Barangay Cantipla/ Barangay Tabunan to Tabunan Barangay Hall in Tabunan, then to Busay. Habal-habal fare for this trip starts at 500php for 2 people.

Before heading to Guining Falls, you can call Cebu City Tourism Commission at (63) (32) 412-4355 to ask for the phone number for Tabunan Barangay Hall to hire a guide for the trek towards falls.

You can also drop by at Betty’s Botanical Garden in Barangay Cantipla before heading back to the city.

NOTE: The Habal-habal ride to Tabunan is a bit challenging and steep, so for adventure newbies you might want to save this trip for later. 🙂

If you plan in driving to Guining, there are parking spaces available at the barangay multi purpose hall. Vans and 4X4 cars are recommended for this trip. Cars and lowered vehicles are not advisable to drive through the terrain.

For all weekends of September 2015, Cebu City Tourism Commission has set special Cebu City Highland Tours. Read more about it here: http://www.iluvcebu.com/cebu-city-tourism-launches-highlands-adventure/

TGI Fridays Cebu’s New Modern Look

TGI Fridays Cebu sports a new contemporary and chic look! The first update since its opening in November 7, 2008, TGI Fridays Cebu patrons surely are delighted with the new style and even charming new customers to try the food outlet’s American fare favorites which they are known for.

TGI Fridays Cebu

TGI Fridays Cebu

Clean modern lines, modish discs adorning the ceiling and that corner with a cozy U-shaped couch with a striking red tiled wall backdrop accented with small bronze drop lights were among the features I noticed as I walked in.

TGIF 3

At the bar area you’ll get to trace TGI Fridays history festooned on the Heritage Wall where framed photographs retell the journey of Alan Stillman, the man who founded the restaurant in the 60’s. Also on the very end of the of the bar is a smoking room! You’ll also notice that the new look is minimalist, giving it a classy modern feel.

“The renovation had 2 phases and were completed in 40 days. It was planned that way so we can continue to serve our patrons and guests even during the updating,” mentioned Ms. Mitz Carreon General Manager of TGI Fridays Cebu. “Now TGI Fridays has a modern look, showcasing a more relaxed and spacious dining area,” she added.

TGIF 2

The Food

TGI Fridays is known to serve a Western fare in big portions, just like how’s it served in the US. A few of my favorites at TGI Fridays are Beef Queso Dip,Caesar Salad and Friday’s Cheeseburger Sliders.  And in the last quarter of 2015, TGI Fridays Cebu will be launching it’s new offering, Fridays Roasted Chicken. Something to look forward to!

Beef Queso Dip. Spicy beef chili queso, topped with pico de gallo and fresh cilantro, served with warm chips.

Caesar Salad. Romaine Lettuce tossed with creamy Caesar dressing, grated Parmesan cheese and crunchy croutons.

Starbucks Kati-kati Blend (Kati-kati is Swahili for “between”)  displays a great example of art of blending and roasting in action. The beans from East Africa produce extraordinary coffees that are great over ice – Kenya brings body and distinctive citrus forward flavors, whilst Ethopia coffee softens the blend and adds more complexity in flavor and aroma. The roast is dark enough to bring the acidity and flavor into an invigorating balance between citrus and spice notes from Kenya and the subtle floral aromas and crisp acidity from Ethopia. (Price 425PhP per bag)

Pru Life UK salutes every Pinoy Fighter

Who can ever forget Yolanda? Many Filipinos lost their homes and left many of our fellow countrymen mourning over the loss of their loved ones. But Filipinos are much stronger than Yolanda, or any catastrophes for that matter. We showed strength and compassion, and together we started to cope up, rebuild, move forward and sparked camaraderie not just among Filipinos but with the world.

Bantayan, an island in the north of Cebu, is one of the severely damaged communities affected by the super typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.  Pru Life UK, and its charitable arm Prudence Foundation, has helped rebuild houses and shelters and provided sustainability by giving them means to get back on their feet and supplying the qualified beneficiaries with new motorized boats and pedicabs to support their livelihood.

Fruit vendor Geraldine Layaog and her family is one of Pru Life UK’s grantees of a pedicab which  they use everyday to transport her goods from their house in Sta. Fe to the central market. “Pasalamat ko jud ug dako sa tabang sa Pru Life UK, ” exclaimed Ms. Layaog. I am really grateful for Pru Life UK’s assistance.

Pru Life Uk 3

Pru Life UK continued their commitment by giving inspiration to the people of Bantayan and brought the “Fight of the Century” to the island, which was aired live in three municipalities -Sta. Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan. Santa Fe Mayor Jose Esgana was delighted that Pru Life UK gave the people of Bantayan the means and the chance to watch the fight live. iLuvCebu was able to witness how the people of Bantayan, young and old, cheered in unison for  the People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao – who is an inspiration to many of us. Literally got goosebumps all over every time a jab or a punch by Manny was thrown and the crowd replied with a harmony of cheer.

“Seeing Cebuanos in Bantayan Island get back on their feet has been truly a remarkable experience for our staff and volunteers. Helping them rebuild their homes is just the first step. We hope watching the fight live gives them the opportunity to set aside their daily struggles and join in this national celebration,” said Antonio Manuel de Rosas, President and CEO of Pru Life UK.

Pru Life UK also aired the boxing match live in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Albay, Aklan and Northern Samar.

That magnificent Bantayan sunset hinting us to hope for a new, brighter and better tomorrow. <3

La Bella Pizza Bistro Cebu

La Bella Pizza Bistro

Branch Address: The Gallery, Juan Luna Avenue, Mabolo Cebu City 6000

Operating Hours: 12noon to 10PM daily

Contact number: 032-4120200

Parking: The Gallery Arcade Parking

Formerly La Bella Napoli, the well loved Italian bistro has been constantly adding more entrees to their menu to entice the Cebuanos (and international guests) even more with authentic Italian dishes. Now La Bella Pizza Bistro, they stay true to their promise of quality and only the best ingredients in every course they serve.

iLuvCebu team recently visited their 35-seater al fresco branch at The Gallery Mabolo and took the liberty of sampling  the newest addition to La Bella Pizza Bistro’s carte.

La Bella 1

Enjoyed a glass of Spritz (150php) as I watched the pizza dough being kneaded, topped and baked on the traditional wood fired-brick oven. Spritz is a wine-based cocktail made with wine, Aperol and soda water.  A great aperitif to prepare me for the feast to come.

La bella 3

And yes, all pizza doughs are made fresh – moments after you place your order. All pizzas are then topped with premium ingredients and baked on classic wood fire- brick oven for less than 10 minutes. And for mozzarella addicts, the selection served with fresh mozzarella are must-try pizzas.

La bella 2

La bella 5

For our appetizer, we had Parmigiana di Melanzane (Price:300php). A lovely combination of baked tomato, mozzarella and fried eggplants that melts sumptuously together in your mouth. Yum!

La bella 4

And then a serving of pasta to share – tortelloni alla bolognese (320php). The pasta looks very similar with tortellinis but a bit larger. The fresh handmade ring-shaped pastas are stuffed with mixed meat in Bolognese sauce.

La bella 7

And oh boy,  the delicious smell of freshly baked pizza as its been taken out of the oven! uuuhrg!  (gets you real giddy! ^_^) Principessa had me at mozzarella (and arugula.. tehee)!  Made with tomato, fresh buffalo mozzarella, parma ham and fresh arugula – it’s currently my new favorite pie at La bella Pizza and Bistro!

La bella 8

“Eel pran-zoh erah de-lee-zee-oh-so, grah-zee da-veh-roh La bella Pizza Bistro.”

Do you love La bella Napoli/ La bella Pizza Bistro too? Tell us your favorites, we’d like to try ’em too! 🙂

You also can enjoy authentic Italian fare at their other branches at Koa Tree House in Gorordo, Piazza Elisea in Talamban and Karancho in Maribago.

Manang Fe Barbecue

Manang Fe Barbecue

Branch Address: Basak Lapu-lapu CIty

Food: Barbecue and streetfood

Good time to dine:  6pm-11pm

Mode of payment: Cash

Manang Fe Barbecue is the place where you can find one of Filipino street food favorites – the betamax or locally known as dugo. It’s a bit rare to find betamax in our kanto or  sidewalk grills here in Cebu. And if you are craving for it, this is the place where you can get your fill of the street food favorite. So what’s betamax made of? It’s actually scalded chicken blood then cut into rectangular pieces, resembling the shape and the color of the betamax tape, explaining why it is called such. 🙂

Manang Fe Barbecue

Dining at Manang Fe Barbecue, first you have to choose your meal at the food station. Aside from betamax/dugo , you can also order other street food like adidas or chicken feet , isaw or tina-e , atay or chicken liver , chorizo and balunbalunan /batikon. And for people who are not that adventurous with food, you can order the pork barbecue and the chicken barbecue.

Tulo ka isaw, usa ka betamax, duha ka baboy, upat ka puso ug usa ka sparkul (3 isaw, 1 betamax, duha ka baboy, 4 puso and 1 sparkle) would be well enough to get you full tanked, costing you less than a hundred bucks. 🙂

Had a weeklong birthday celebration and my last birthday hurrah for 2013 was a dinner with my family. <3  We love Japanese food and decided to have  yakiniku at Wakamatsu. Without making any reservation, we were lucky to got a table for dinner. Yipeee! (well it’s my birthday celebration so God’s been extra kind to me. :P) But seriously, you should make a reservation when you plan to dine here. For dinner, everything on the menu  is on Eat-All-You-Can (except for the drinks which would be charged and just 1 round of dessert for free). And price is just for 580php. But be sure to order just what you can consume or else you would be charged double. 🙂

Seasoned angus, buttered scallops, squid, maki salad, california maki and chili shrimps would be our top recommendations to order for this restaurant. Chicken was seasoned well too. On top of the awesome food, service is good! <3 This would be one of the restaurants that we would love to visit over and over again. 🙂

Atty. Ethelbert Ouano and I had a late lunch at Vue as we discuss projects for our organization, iLearners Inc. I ordered the  Shrimp and Lemon in Olive Oil (Price: 210php). I find the pasta overcooked and the flavor, too tangy. For first time diners, I would recommend Vue’s  Ham, Cheddar and Mozarella Monte Kristo (wheat loaf sandwich dipped in egg and milk then fried in butter) and Philly Cheesesteak (Thinly sliced US Angus beef, caramelized onions, mozarella and cheese sauce).

And be there on time before your table reservation is given to other customers waiting in line. 🙂

My brothers and I had dubbed this the best Kare-kare we had. Lantaw’s Crispy Pata Kare-kare’s sauce have a balance taste of nuttiness and sweetness that did not over power the taste of every veggie on the pot and the pata itslef. Though the pata  we had during this dinner was not crispy and the slices were tiny unlike what we had before at their branch in Cordova. (Price 150php)

Chinese New year at Marco Polo

The Snake is the intuitive, introspective, refined and collected of the Animal Signs. They are attractive people who take cries with ease and do not become flustered easily. They are graceful people, exciting and dark at the same time.

Contemplative and private, the Snake is not outwardly emotional. He can appear cunning and reticent and works very modestly in the business environment. The Snake will plot and scheme to make certain things turn out exactly as they want them to. They are not great communicators and can become quite possessive when they set their minds on achieving the interest of a partner.

Water Snakes are influential and insightful. They manage others well and tend to be good for organizations to utilize as staff. They are quite motivated and intellectual, very determined and resolute about success. They will have what they desire, despite the conclusion or outcome they generate because it is worth it to them to not only be recognized for their efforts, but to be rewarded as well. They are affectionate with their families and friends but do not show this side of their personality to colleagues or business partners.

Year of the Snake: 1905.1917.1929.1941.1953.1965.1977.1989.2001.2013.2025.2037.

In celebration of the traditional Chinese New Year, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu hotel brings you the Yee Sang Tossing Ceremony on February 9, 2013 at 7:00PM.

A treat for the senses, “Yee Sang”, which is served during the Chinese New Year only and stands for prosperity. In the Cantonese dialect, it is referred to as the “fatt choi发财”. The word “choi” can also be taken to mean “luck.” “Yee Sang” may vary in taste, depending on the ingredients used. A good “Yee Sang” will have a balanced sweet, bitter, salty and spicy taste. These four tastes represent the different experiences one goes through in life.”

Bight inviting lights and vibrant lively hues would be the first thing you would notice upon approaching the store. Mr. Koa aptly said, “You can call it an extension of your living room.”

Chatime offers a lot of tea concoctions and adds new flavors every now and then. An addition to our Chatime faves would be the latest Honeydew Milk tea line which we sampled during our last visit. Sweet is not overpowering with the right hint of tea we still love. <3
