Street food is a favorite for most of us Filipinos. Though our hazardous love affair with ghetto grubs have a risk of us ending up in a hospital bed, we still take ’em with our mouth wide open.
Missing my college days, I drove to Banilad Road (the road I pass everyday to get to USC-TC) to check out this 3-day old street food joint. Curbside Street Food is just across Bright Academy. The restaurant’s yellow walls and red door is hard to miss.
The walls are painted with popular Cebu street names, and walking to the counter to order, can’t help but admire how cleverly they transformed the wall separating the dining area and the kitchen into a blackboard where the menu is written with colored chalks. With the sanitary looking dining area, I was relieved and convinced that I’d be piggin out on street food without getting sick. And I’d be the bearer of more good news, for they have AC and WiFi! \m/
They only have a few stuff on the menu, but an unusual item on a street food cart in Cebu is enough to get you intrigued, Deep Fried Quails! Honestly, it was my first time to eat quails. Well, I love hard boiled quail eggs, but the deep fried quail birds,’ twas my maiden bite today. I know this might sound like a cliche, but it does taste like chicken.
Also had the veggie lumpia which is soo good, especially when dipped in vinegar! Also had the Turon ala mode for dessert. Dirty Ice cream and ice cream bars are also available.
Serving only 5 vaiands for now, I wish they could add more. Some kwek kwek perhaps? hehehe. Looking forward for more additional street food items on Curbside’s menu.
And hey, where’d those fried quails go? ………….Buuuurp!
