Magkadugay, magkalami! A famous tagline in Argao referring to the food they’re best known for, Torta de Argao. A 2-hour drive or about 2.5 hour ride via bus from the city of Cebu, Cabecera de Argao in Poblacion Argao is a remnant of the Spanish era that is well preserved and maintained. Just a street away from the beautiful Cabecera de Argao and Saint Michael the Archangel Parish Church, is the home of Argao’s original Torta, Chitangs.
It was around 33 degrees celsius and we did not miss the chance to rekindle our love for Argao’s Guilang Hot Tsokolate! Had a cup of the earthy, creamy and bold hot tsokolate together with the best Torta in Argao at Chitang’s!
So what makes Chitang’s Torta the best in Argao? It’s these two ingredients and the way they bake it! Early morning tuba or locally called lina and lard from the preparation of the humba are mixed into the batter. It is then cooked in an improvised oven, called hudno, using coconut husks as charcoal.
Magkabahaw, Magkalami as Chitang’s would say. The longer it stay on the shelf, the better it would taste. Grab a box for take away for 395php for the big sized Torta. You can also buy 4 for 100php for the small sized Torta and 3 for 100php for the big ones.
