16 October 2015, Philippine Eagle Center, Malagos Davao – Cebu Pacific Air declared adopting Mindanao the Philippine Eagle. For five years, the thirteen year old male eagle will have his needs (food and veterinary expenses) taken care of the the country’s leading budget airlines, Cebu Pacific Air.
Mindanao is one of four Philippine eagles inside the facility labeled as “Ambassadors for Education.” These birds give the visitors of the Philippine Eagle Center a glimpse of their grace and at the same, have guests learn facts about the remarkable bird specie.
Mindanao the Philippine eagle‘s adoption strengthens Cebu Pacific Air’s commitment to act on environmental conservation issues that are greatly linked to the country’s rich biodiversity. Cebu Pacific Air’s Director of Products Ms. Apple Ignacio hopes that by adopting Mindanao the Philippine Eagle, it would encourage people to take part in saving our Philippine Eagles, one of the most endangered bird species in the world today. The adoption of Mindanao the Philippine Eagle costs Php125,000 a year.
Philippine Eagle Center has 33 Philippine Eagles under their care and has contributed hugely in the study of preserving these beautiful bird specie. Today, there are less than 400 Philippine eagles in our Philippine forests. With Cebu Pacific Air’s contribution to the facility though Mindanao’s adoption, this would go a long way in educating people and help protect these magnificent birds.
