Tim Ho Wan to open in Cebu on March 25

Tim Ho Wan, Hong Kong’s famous Michelin-starred dim sum restaurant, is opening in Cebu at the Upper Ground Floor, Mountain Wing of SM Seaside City on Saturday, March 25. This will be its 7th branch in the country, first outside Metro Manila and first and only Michelin-rated restaurant in Cebu.

Tim Ho Wan started in 2009 when Chef Mak Kwai Pui and Chef Leung Fai Keun opened a modest 20-seater hole-in-the-wall eatery in Mongkok, Hong Kong. A year after, it earned the coveted star in the 2010 HK and Macau Michelin guide, the international benchmark of good food and highest form of recognition in the culinary world.

Since then, the restaurant branched out around Hong Kong and brought its delicious and affordable dim sum overseas with its first international location in Singapore in 2013. It then expanded to the Philippines in 2014, followed by Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, Macau, and most recently New York.

Dim Sum Specialists

Its inclusion in the Michelin guide was unprecedented at a time when only fine dining and expensive restaurants dominated the list.  Renowned as the “most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant in the world”, the accolade was a testament to the affordable luxury that Tim Ho Wan consistently offers in terms of taste, quality, and value. Tim Ho Wan, in Cantonese, translates to “additional good luck” but its brand philosophy is anchored on dim sum perfection from dish placement, service delivery, to specific sizing of every morsel, right down to the folds of the snowy skins for dumplings. This precision takes years of mastery to instil, and the consistency in taste and freshness across every Tim Ho Wan outlet is evident. The dim sum is handmade-to-order, not pre-steamed and reheated, to retain its much-intended flavour and texture. About 70% of its premium ingredients are imported from Hong Kong.

With no dish over P200 and exquisite flavours that make the experience well worth the wait, Tim Ho Wan continues to earn the acclaim of food critics and heart of epicureans well beyond Hong Kong.

To celebrate its arrival in Cebu, Tim Ho Wan Cebu will be giving one (1) complimentary order of Baked Bun with BBQ Pork to the first 100 transactions with a minimum purchase of P500 during its opening week from March 25 to March 31, 2017.

iLearners Inc. Multimedia Library to improve Learning in Rural Cebu

4 March 2017, Montebello Villa Hotel – iLearners Inc. launches iLibrary in time for its 10th year of reaching out to the pupils belonging to communities challenged by poverty and illiteracy in the rural areas of Cebu, iLearners Inc. is intensifying its efforts in promoting literacy and improving the way pupils learn through this latest program.

The iLibrary is a multimedia library, which incorporates physical books with other tools for learning that are beneficial to a pupil’s learning in the digital age. The iLibrary will consist of (3) book shelves of paper books, an art section, two (2) units of computer, an AV (Audio/Visual) set and a music station. The iLibrary will be installed in three of iLearners Inc. ‘s beneficiary public primary institutions – Lunas, Kaluangan II and Caohagan Elementary Schools situated in Carcar, Asturias and Caohagan Island Mactan respectively.

“The iLibrary will surely boost the students’ interest to learn and arouse creativity,” exclaims Andrew “Doyzkie” Buenaviaje , iLearners Inc. President and Founder. “I am excited for the completion of the first multimedia library to be installed in Lunas Elementary School before the year ends, “ Buenaviaje added.

“iLearners Inc. is delighted that Montebello Villa Hotel sides with our advocacy and has showed their support by awarding us with a music station, which is one of the components of the iLibrary.” Doyzkie shared.

“We believe in iLearners’ advocacy which aims to eradicate illiteracy especially in the grassroots level. Supporting iLearners would mean supporting literacy since they do not give something that only lasts for a day or two. Rather, it is one of the most basic needs, that is education. It is through education that the youth learns the basic skills needed to survive as adults in the new world. Thus, molds them to become a successful individual in the future – who knows we’ve inspired the next Steve Jobs,” expresses Luis Martin Alvarez, General Manager Montebello VillaHotel.
“Music is life, and we believe the youth deserve to learn more about it, even at such early age. To begin with, a school without exposing the students to music is not a comprehensive education due to the proven academic, social, and personal benefits that it offers. And, in exposing the students from rural areas to today’s music technology, we will never know the difference it can make to them; it might aid in unleashing unique skills and talents from the youth of Lunas Elementary School that can make a profound change in the world,” Mr. Alvarez added.

Others participated and played fun parlor games with the students in the yard which involved; paper dances, singing contests, and other games of wit. iLearners Art Workshop was also done by Lunas’ Elementary Schools Grade 4 & 6. aThere was no time for anyone to be bored with all the painting, playing and painting which allowed everyone to meet, bond with one another and experience different things and lives even if just for a few hours. All in all this tie-up was a beautiful success and iLearners is looking with delight into future of more collaborations to fight illiteracy in the rural Cebu.

iLearners Literacy Day

September 8, 2013. iLearners Inc. is an organization dedicated to minimizing illiteracy in rural parts of Cebu celebrated world literacy day by gathering its members old and new to provide orientation for the new ones and discuss upcoming projects and fund raising plans for 2014 that would help elevate the literacy levels in their adopted rural schools.  International Literacy day was created by Unecso around four decades ago, with the goal to create a heightened sense awareness concerning literacy. It takes a celebration to appreciate what most take for granted which in this case is basic education. According to UNESCO statistics some 775 million adults up to this day are illiterate and about 60.7 million are not attending school.  iLearners Literacy Day is supported by Sun Cellular and Greenwich Pizza.

About Cebu

Cebu, or Sugbu in our vernacular(Cebuano), is a province of the Philippines consisting of Cebu Island and 167 surrounding islands. Its is located east of Negros and west of Bohol and Leyte.

Mactan, Bantayan, Camotes, Caohagan and Sumilon are a few of the islands (which are still part of Cebu Province) that surround the main island of Cebu.

We, Cebuanos, are said to be warm, accommodating and friendly – though the way we speak is a bit stronger (tone-wise) than that of the people from the country’s capital, it’s not at all true that Cebuanos are braggarts. 😉 We are actually chummy and amicable, contrary to the misconception.

Cebuanos love to eat (well who doesn’t, hehe). Being in the heart of the country, food gets really interesting. From original Cebuano cuisine, to a mix of tastes from neighboring provinces to asian fusion and international dishes, Cebu has it all! It’s a melting pot of gastronomic delights!

And the best thing about Cebu? Proximity! When you are stressed out, the beach is an hour drive from almost everywhere in the city or if you want to feel the breeze brush your hair and rush in between your fingers, the mountains are just minutes away!

Cebu is <3!

Warmest Hugs,

Doyzkie, Reymond and Edd Buenaviaje (www.iLuvCebu.com)

Turn back flavorful time with the ZUBUCHON and taste how lechon was cooked 100 years ago. Zubuchon is about doing things the old fashion way.Zubuchon’s pigs are not from commercial piggeries but are hand-picked from pigs raised in the backyards of certain individuals. They then “fatten up”the pigs for a week before they are slaughtered.

ZUBUCHON LECHON
General Manager Mary Joan Danao explains that their pork is “bathed in coconut water” and seasoned with organic ingredients such as sea salt, 12 herbs and spices, olive oil, American lemon and Rosemary and Thyme.

Zubuchon’s Camias shake

Made less “sinfully delicious” by pairing it with the Camias shake, the ZUBUCHON is healthy and remains true to Cebuano history.

Ai Love Cosplay

iLuvCebu Events (CANE Events) has been consistent in producing the best and most attended Cosplay themed events in Cebu since its inception to the local entertainment industry. The events created an avenue for the youth to express their other sanctums through cosplaying and showcasing talents in photography, arts, and other hobbies.

Our events has received, nonetheless, upbeat reviews from local news papers and unsolicited write-ups from the Cebu Blogger’s Society, an organization of online community who’s credibility in online blogging is sought by businessmen to review their services and products online.

Following the enormous success of HobCon 2009 and Satin Eclipse, iLuvCebu Events in partnership with ABS-CBN Cebu presents “Ai (love) Cosplay” just in time for the month of passion, hearts, and reds! The event highlighted the Cosplay Competition and Digital Art display by Kathryn Layno who showed us the love of anime in print.

TAXI Services

Below is the list of the biggest taxi services here in Cebu. We highly recommend to ride on taxi’s with the JEFF and TITAN meters. These are the two most reliable meters in Cebu, other meters should be watched for caution. One way to know a cheating driver is that the meter control is placed with the taxi horn, so every time the horn is pressed, the meter number jumps. The switch could be placed near the foot controls, or under the steering wheel or at the left side of the driver at the door. Commuters should watch out for this. Though Cebu Taxi drivers are known to be courteous and honest we still recommend to travel with caution. A friendly reminder from iLuvCebu Team.
