Sophisticated and fancy are two words I associate with French Cuisine. Wine pairings on an elegant table setting during a date with someone special, or perhaps celebrating a big promotion – that’s my perception of French dining, elegant and lavish.
So when Cafe Marco invited me over for the launch of the 5-day-only French Culinary Journey last September 21, I obliged to join in the celebration. Honestly am not well-versed with French Cuisine and thought this would be a great experience to expand my palate with new flavors.
Executive Chef Olivier Foucke of Marco Polo Xiamen has set up a French feast just for the Cebuanos and its guests from September 21 to 25, 2016. Chef Olivier who has over 20 years of French Culinary expertise surely will make us say C’est délicieux!
Chef Oli explained the French eats he prepared which will be served alongside the international fare of Cafe Marco. He then had a set of assiette de hors d’ oeuvre served first for appetizers which included the delicious beetroot, white radish and camembert cheese entree. The dish consisted of familiar flavors I didn’t expect would go well together, but did.
Moving on with the mains, Cailles Au Raisin is one of the most interesting dishes on the spread. Made with braised quail with red wine and grapes. This dish gives a warm feeling in the mouth with a fruity sweet tickle.
Poule au Pot or poached chicken with vegetables reminds me of my grandma’s tinolang manok. This prompted me that French cuisine isn’t bound only to being fancy, but can also remind us of home and its warmth. <3
Hachis Parmentier is like a cheesy lasagna but without the pasta and cheese. This dish is made with baked minced beef and whipped potato. Yum!
Blanquette de Boeuf is beef stew with mushroom and baby potatoes in cream.
Bon Appetit at Cafe Marco is a great way to explore and try authentic French Cuisine – an opportunity that one should not miss. And yes, you can help yourself with as much serving as you want. (wink, wink)
